Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S650 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I can't upload pictures from my Sony DSC-S650.

Whenever I plug the USB cable into my camera, the screen goes black. It does it even when the cable isn't plugged into the computer. Even though the screen is black the camera still functions normally but it won't let me upload anything.

Goto any radio shack and get a external memory card reader this will allow you to get your pictures if the camera or cable is defective.

I don't know if its the camera or the USB cable, but when I plug the cable into the computer, nothing pops up. When I looked at the cable, it didn't appear to be broken, so I have no idea how I'm supposed...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

An easy way to find out is to try another cable. Better yet, consider NOT using the USB connection at all.

As far as I know, most cameras are made so that once it senses a USB cable (whether as being inserted physically or as a source of current), it reduces the camera to pretty much no more than a memory card reader.  It is my belief this is so you can't use your camera directly with your computer, either as a web cam or using your computer as an immediate storage device.
