Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We just replaced the propane gas line. Our stove is gas and it lights, but neither of our gas water heaters will light. Both water heaters are new and have been working for about 4 months before the recent propane line replacement. Can you tell us what to check? Thanks, Jimmy

You have to purge the air from the lines.
At the water heater, take a wrench and loosen the gas line until you smell gas coming from the line. Then tighten the gas line. Check it for leaks with a soapy water solution. Let the gas smell clear, then light the pilot on the heater.

Where do i conect to do a gas presure test on a atwood DSI RV gas valve

Using a manifold and manometer, you connect between propane line feed and valve. A quick check at stove should give you system pressure as well.

Our gas was shut off and when it was shut back on the tankless water heater not working. I can hear the pilot clicking but no flame.

Hello,
Since it was turned off, there is probably some air in the lines, which may require several attempts to light it again. This is normal, especially on longer gas lines. If you have any other gas appliances, (furnace, stove) try lighting them also to help purge the gas lines and eventually it will get the right mixture of gas to relight the water heater too. Douglas

0. Check the spark ignitor conection to the board
1. Check the water by-pass valve if you have it
2. Check your gas pressure. (5-7"wc for natural gas, 9-13"wc for propane gas)
3. Clean your filter for your water system or remove it and try again
4. Check the Hi-limits on your heater
5. Replace the thermostat

Make sure you have propane to the heater by lightly loosening the line at the heater. If so, turn the heater off for 30 minutes make sure the gas line is tight. then attempt ipilot light again
