Disconnect one speaker at the time (at the amp) until the protection light goes out, then you know where the problem is.

If your sub is a dual coil wired in parallel and you run it with the amp in bridged mode the impedance will be too low for many amps, seeing it as a short. Then wire the dual coils in series instead or run the coils on one channel each.

I've also seen coils in speakers melt and short out partially, causing too low resistance as seen by the amp.

Good luck!

So I know I'm not the one who posted this but I'm having the same issue. I've disconnected both speakers and the red light fades and comes right back on. I've checked my wiring but I'm stuck. How do I know if my subs are dual coil?

Protection light is on all connections are ok

If the protection lights are on it you will need to check the owners manual to figure out why it is in protection mode. The most likely reason is that the power wires are not properly connected. This could be the ground wire not being solidly connected to the vehicle chassis in a paint-free location or it could be the live power wire. Check your connections and connect them all properly. That should fix the problem.

Is something wrong with my amp if the protect light stays on or is it the wiring?

It could be the wiring. Sony amps will go into protection if the ohm is to low. They usually like to see 4 ohm or higher. Unplug your speaker wires and see if it still stays in protection. If it does could be an internal thing in the amp. If it isn't rewire subs in series not parallel.

Has an internal issue, if you know how to use a ohm meter, check the resistance of the wire on the interior of the amp, also check the fuses, ground, and power wire clean up the ground wire where it is connected to the vehicle

Amp works when beaten

It sounds like you have a broken connection in the amplifier. The first thing to check is the fuse. Sometimes the contacts become weak on the fuse holder and the connection becomes intermittent. Any other troubleshooting would require opening up the amp. Any repairs would require resoldering the broken connection.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The red light is normal and indicates the amp is powered up. Check your signal wires (RCA patch cords?) and speaker wires. Need more info to be of more help. What receiver are you using? How is it connected to the amp?

unplug the speakers and the RCA leads from the amp, if the red protection light is still lit then its 1 of your linear amps blown or mosfet depending what your amp uses..if the red light does go off with the leads all disconnected, then connect 1 lead at a time and check the light, when you connect the bad lead or speaker then the light will come on and you know that 1 needs replacing..hope this helps
