Question about Dishwashers

Maytag quiet series 200 model MD88750AWB Dishwasher doesn't work. Control panel only responds to the heavy wash button. When pressed it lights up along with three option lights. After about 10 seconds they go off. There is no mechanical response to the pushed button. There were no symptoms leading up to this problem. If you can give me a "head's up" about what to look for before I open up the control panel I would appreciate it. Thank You John

There is power to the dishwasher

  • john263 May 25, 2009

I took the inner panel of the dishwasher door off and discovered the plastic handle/latch
is broken. Is that a likely source of this problem?

Hi

If your dishwasher doesn't work at all, check these: Power from the house Is there power getting to the dishwasher? This can be difficult to test, because dishwashers are usually wired directly to an electrical circuit, rather than plugged into the wall. But at least check for a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker.

Door switch The door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover, or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it.

Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dishwasher, burns and breaks the connection. If that's the problem, the wires must be repaired/replaced as necessary. If that's not the problem, check the wiring to the door switch, the wiring between the door and the lower part of the dishwasher, and the wiring to the timer. Repair any broken, burned, brittle, or defective wiring, using the proper appliance-grade wire and connectors.

Timer or selector switch Although it's uncommon, the timer or the selector switch may be defective. If so, you need to replace the defective part, because neither of these can be repaired.

Yes as I told you previously the door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it.

This series of washer has massive problems, there are not alot of happy customers. The first major problem is the seal on the door is reported to leak dampening the inside of the door where the control panel lives. This in turn can create problems with, like your problem the control panel. It can also lead to problems with the ECM (electronic control module). The other major problem they have is with the door handle breaking and also the safety switches in the door. My suggestion would be to open the door panel and dry the control panel out. Once the control panel is dry you might want to run a bead of silicone around the panel to seal it off. You will have to use a sealant that is suitable for to be around food. Give it a test when it's all dry and see how you go.
Hope this helps

Did you try replacing the main control baord ? If you are getting power to the board we don't have to worry much about a connection or breaker issue. Double check to make sure all the ribbon cable isinstalled correctly first. There should be some tabs to pull up onbefore you insert the ribbon cable into the plug. Once the cable is inthe plug, push the tabs down to lock it in place.Once you checkall this out, turn the breaker off to the dishwasher, wait about 1minute, then turn the power back on and see if that makes a difference.

Hope I helped with the repair of your problem.
An Accept from you is how I get paid.
And a positive feed back tells me how I did with the repair.

My dishwasher the maytag quiet series 300, will not respond to the start button

Find your circuit breaker for your dishwasher and turn it off for 3-5 minutes. Turn it back on, then turn on your dishwasher. If this works, after the complete cycle of your dishwasher, you have to turn it off manually by pressing "on" botton then press it 1 more time to cancel; this will turn off. The defect is, probably the moisture built up in the control board causing it to ground some of the connections. Suggestion for the manufacturer, insulate the control board to prevent absorbing moisture.

I have a Maytag Quiet Series 400 and I can't get it to run on Normal, lite or other. I get a code 82 that appears. What does this mean?

My Maytag quiet 400 series is doing the same thing-buttons aren't responding or working. And now a second problem...it has become very loud and sounds like it is chewing up all the dishes.

My maytag 200 quiet series dishwasher has a button with the number 3 next to the start/cancel button and will not start. The 3 flashes but won't start? Any idea what that means?

The control panel has bee locked. Press and hold the heated dry button for 3 seconds until the light next to the lock "3" button goes off. This feature is to prevent small children from starting it. Locking the controls works the same way, hold the heated dry button for 3 seconds will turn it back on.

Maytag Quiet Series 200 dishwasher doesn't start

The electronic control panel has gotten wet and needs to be replaced (about $200 for parts plus about $200 for service call/labor) I just had mine replaced about 10 month ago, stopped using the type of dishwasher soap I had based on Maytag Service staff recommendation, stopped using hot wash to prevent high condensation at the door and now its broken again and in need of a new control panel again. You may be money ahead to go buy a new dishwasher that does not have the plastic encased control panel at the top. My understanding is the control panels are poorly engineered and made for most dishwasher manufactures by one of the mega electronic/appliance companies.

Sounds like you have a bad Control Board

http://www.partstore.com/Part/Maytag/Maytag/MDB6600AWW/Maytag/Maytag/99003160/New.aspx

But with the price it cost, you might be better off buying a new dishwasher, preferably a different brand, cause that washer has some bad reviews
