1 Answer

II need to upgrade the memory, and this means taking the laptop to peices. can someone please post a how to for this, thanks

I have a emachines M5116. I want to upgrade the memory but one of the 2 slots is inside the laptop, and is only accessable by removing the rear case of the laptop. Can anyone please give me some instructions how to do this, as i have tryed and i appear to have missed something. I have removed all screws and still the case will not come free. Im not sure what im missing, plus the dvd player is in place, and i see no way this could be removed, even though it must. please can someone help me. Thank you. Gareth

That makes a lot of sence now. thank you very much.

One last thing, is the keyboard secured in like others with spring clips in the top, and if so, where are they?

  • ralphdot2 May 25, 2009

I have the keyboard out and i can see the second slot, but its still covered by the casing. I may have to unscrew everything to get the laptop cover off to get to it.

What a stupid place to fit something which needs upgrading.

Anyway, a very big thanks for your help on this.

The other slot is located under the keyboard on the top of the motherboard - not under. There may be screws on the bottom that secure the panel above the keyboard. Remove the panel and you will see the screws securing the keyboard. If you are careful, you may not have to disconnect the keyboard connector.

You sure there isn't a removeable panel to access it? Otherwise, yes you will have to remove the palmrest assembly - which usually requires removing the display as well.

How can I upgrade my emachines em250 netbook?

To upgrade the motherboard? No. Just replace the laptop. If you want to upgrade, you may try memory, but it would take someone like me to look at it and see what upgrades might help.

Emachines hard drive

I'll give you a link below to a copy of your user's manual.Once it loads and opens, hit the Download for free tab and you can save a pdf copy so that you have it.
I checked,on pg 61 it says it's a standard IDE Hdd,mounted into a bracket.I'd think that you'll just need to swap out the dead one, make sure you put the bracket on right.Upside down sometimes hurts.
There are sketches of how it comes out and all,it shouldn't be a major problem.
It also has the Sys. Restore steps right after that section,ir's all in the book.

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,

Did you buy DDR PC 2700 ram modules?
Are you sure you've fully seated them in the slots, and clipped them in? See here for compatible memory options for your system.
See instructions to add ram on page 50 of your manual here. or here.
eMachine support doesn't offer any bios updates, so I'd let it go for now...just make sure you have updated hardware drivers...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Want to know how to upgrade my lap top memory thank you

To upgrade you will need a SoDimm 2gb DDR II SDRAM, 667 MHz module, on the bottom of the notebook you will need to remove the panel usually secured by 4 screws to gain access to the memory slots, you probably have a 1 and 2 gb modules already so it'll mean removing the 1gb chip and discarding it as you only have 2 memory slots so you can fit the new 2gb module.
