Question about IBM ThinkPad R40 2681
The audio volume is very very low for all cd or dvd or anything with audio but I check the audio device in device manager and states it is working What can I do, you can barely hear anything
Right click your volume icon in notification area and adjust volume settings in there. Try headphones and see if its still the same, in case its your actual speakers going bad.

First check that the 'Wave' slider in the volume control is not too low or muted.
Check in the DVD player software that you have the correct DVD audio stream selected.
Then suspect the audio codec that should have been installed with the DVD player software.
