Cold water valve will not actuate on Roper top-load clothes washer

The cold water valve does not turn on, I can get it to work on the hot water setting, however when it reaches the rinse cycle it stops.  The cold water settings will not work at all.  In an effort to troubleshoot further I turned off the hot water tap and then tried the hot water setting and the machine does turn on and try to draw water, this is not the case with the cold water valve as no operating sounds are emitted at all when the machine reaches a setting where it needs to actuate the cold water valve.

Re: Cold water valve will not actuate on Roper top-load...

It looked like all my different cycles were scrwed up. I could not get anything done with cold water, my rinse cycle was very very hot......after reading some of the suggestions about flow restrictions etc.....I decided to check the hoses going to the wall. I had them reversed....Hot at the wall was going to the cold hookup on the m/c and the hot on the wall was going the the cold hookup on the m/c.

My washing machine is a Roper top load washer. The problem I am having is that the pump from the cold water drain from under the washing machine. Do I need another pump? The hot water will work. I use the...

This model is a direct drive with only one pump, the drain pump. If the drain pump leaks, which is a common problem on these models, it will leak no matter what temperature wash is selected! If you a have a leak on cold, it will probably also leak on warm wash. Your problem is your solenoid operated fill valve on the cold side. Only one fill hose comes off of this combination fill valve to your fill plenum at the top back of your tub. So if it leaks on the cold, but not hot, check for a crack in the plastic housing of the valve on the cold half. The valve is located on the inside back of the machine on top right when looking at the front of the machine. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace.

Hope this helps

Have a Roper RAS7133RQ3 top loading washer. Will not fill with water when turned on but will spin and drain when you take it through the cycles.

First, always check for the obvious causes, if you haven't already, we all tend to overlook these.

1. Are water valves open, and if so is there water.

2. Check hose filter screens for plugging, or hoses themselves,

After these possible causes have been ruled out, check machine's inlet for both hot and cold taps for blockage, other wise you most likely have a bad fill valve, which are fairly cheap and simple to replace. If you have hard water, this is your best bet. These valves have two solenoids, one each for hot and cold, one or the other will energize when the temperature selector switch is selected for hot wash or cold wash, if warm wash is selected both solenoids energize to allow both hot and cold water to enter the machine and mix to warm.

Hope this helps

We are not getting hot water into our washer. All

Most likely the hot water solenoid on the water inlet valve has failed.
If the cold works - look at changing the solenoid - or the entire valve.

My washer works wonderful buy cold water settings do not work even rinse doesn't work hot water works fine

Would say that the cold fill valve is shot

The machine cannot fill with cold water which it uses for setting the temperature on the 60 degree wash.

The cold valve is also used for rinses

Hot water only will give you a wash which is too hot and will cause the colours to run

Can take the pipe off the back of the machine to see if the cold water inlet filter is blocked

Make sure that you turn the fawcet off and also that you have a cloth handy in case there is still some pressure on the hose.

If the filter is blocked take it out and clean it , it just pulls out but be gentle with it it is only plastic.

If the filter is clean you need a new valve

No cold water will enter machine but not water

Turn off the cold water.
Remove the cold water hose from the washer. Clean out the filter screen in the water valve. Re-attach the hose and turn the water back on. If you get no cold water replace the water valve.

Top load roper washer water will not cut off after filling machin

The water valve is the part where your water hoses connect.

Replace the water valve if the water is constantly running after the machine has been turned off.

If it only overfills during the fill cycle, check your water level switch and connecting plastic air pressure hose.

I have a Roper washer which is about 15 years old and it has never run properly because the hot water trickles in so slowly that I can only wash with cold. Can you make a suggestion Thanks Roz

Make sure the hot water valve is turned on completely.
It is usually the cold water that creeps in because of clogged filter screens in the hoses.

Washer only washes on hot

Some washing machines allow cold water to enter only during certain cycles. Others intermittently allow hot and cold to enter, to temper the temperature of the water. Consult your owner's manual if you are unsure about whether the machine is acting abnormally.

If you're sure the machine is not working the way it used to--or should--check the following.

  • Is the cold water turned on? If not, turn it on.

  • Is the washer getting hot water but no cold water? If so, check to see if the control panel settings are correct.

  • Is there cold water coming through the proper hose? If not, check to see if the screen inside the water-inlet valve is clean. (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If it's clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so, you need to replace the valve.

    ROPER RAS6233KQO T.L.W.-Won't fill/rinse with cold water

Most washers have a small screen at the water inlet valve. They can be accessed simply by revoving the hose from the back side of the washer, using a small screw driver you can carefully remove the screens and clean them out under a faucet. That may be all that is wrong.
