Sounds more like a power supply, you might try disconnecting as many devices as you can from the mother board (CD, Floppy, HD ect) and see if it will post then.

The infamous power switch cable problem
you will most likely have to dissasemble your computer and seseat the tape cable that goes from the power button to the motherboard see: HP.com/support/manuals as to how the computer comes apart these are a pain they always fail
If you need a new one go to e-bay and, buy one there it's much cheaper than HP

HP dv6000 Lights up but that's it.

Re : When i press the power button, the lights all light up, the cd rom drive spins for a second and that's it. No fan, No Post, Blank Screen. After a few seconds, it shuts off and then turns back on.

That is generic hardware fault, any faulty device can cause the problem.

The motherboard must be started with a minimal set of devices to troubleshoot.

Start motherboard with only CPU, power adapter connected (faulty battery can cause the problem), heathsink, display and one memory stick. Keep unplugged HD, optical units, keyboard, minipci cards etc.

If problem persists, eventually test the motherboard using a post card(PCI & ISA PC Diagnostic POST CARD MOTHERBOARD TEST CARD) to ensure that new motherboard is not faulty, and then if cpu has not been replaced with the motherboard, replace CPU.

Computer has power, hear the fan and HD trying to run however nothing happens, blank screen. Plugged in external monitor and still black screen

HP laptops have several problems with GPU overheating. Could also be a bad stick of RAM or a bad hard drive. You will need to remove each one and try to power on after each is removed. If still wont light up the screen you probably have a motherboard problem with the video chip (AKA: GPU processor)

Hi, I have a HP Pavillion dv2601 Special Edition. The system switches on but the screen is blank. Some say the motherboard is gone, some say this is due to battery problem. Even if I run it directly with...

Look closely on the power, num lock, cap lock on your next power up.
ALL THREE will light up at the same time during the boot process.
THEY MUST lite up at the same time.
This is call POST.
NO POST will = a bad motherboard.
==== If they all lite up and no screen display then it is a back light,LCD or ribbon cable problem.
I recommend you start a CHAT session at Fixya.
I don't think you can get an answer by email/posting method.

Computer will seem to start, but

if the screen comes up and goes blank again,

1.Remove and replace your RAM with a known good RAM to test with, if it persist or continue, then

2.repair your operating system by re-updating it,this will help it to recover from the missing files

The flashing power switch and power supply LED on the rear in conjunction with a power failure or surge indicates that there is a defective component; typically the power supply, motherboard, memory, processor or modem. -Disconnect all the power supply leads, drives, and motherboard as well as any USB, firewire and other external devices. -Plug in the 115v power supply cable and look at he LED on the back of the power supply. If it is still flashing the power supply is bad and needs to be replaced. -If it isn?t flashing then unplug the power supply plug in one device, plug in the power cord and watch for the flashing LED again. If it?s flashing you?ve found your culprit, if not move on to the next component and repeat the process until you?ve found it. Don?t forget your plug in cards could also be the problem. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions. As always please don?t forget to rate this posting.
