Question about Comfort-Aire RAD-101 Air Conditioner

Open Question

Wont turn on

I have 2 comfort aire rad-101-5 window units. Neither of them will turn on. When you push the rest button on the plug, you hear a faint beep. But there is no light or power going to either unit. The fuses are fine to the outlets, already been checked. Could you please help me, my house is like a oven. The units have only been used 2 seasons.

SOURCE: My air conditioner just shut

Many window units now have a GFCI plug. If the power cord, where it plugs into the wall, is huge, it should have a reset button on the face or side of the plug.

If not, then a power fuse on the control panel has blown, or the control panel has died.

My Comfort-Aire BHD 651-C died

The Comfort-Aire crapped out again! We started the season with a little 17-pint Sears, but it wasn't cutting the mustard getting the accumulated moisture out of the cellar, so we fired up the Comfort-Aire 65-pint machine. It got the humidity down to 50% pronto, and kept it there for the better part of a week when all of a sudden it quit. Died! Nothing! Not a glimmer in the control panel, and pushing the buttons did absolutely nothing. Unplugging it and plugging it in again produced a faint "chirp" but that was all. Naturally, the thing is weeks out of warranty. Without the warranty, the nearest service place wants a $60 "consultation fee" just to look at it, so I decided to see if I could fix it myself before seeking professional aid.

After getting an exploaded view of the machine from the web, I removed the collection bucket, the filter, and the two screws from under the plastic front cover. In addition to the two screws, the cover is held by little tabs that fit into notches in the steel sides. To get the plastic cover off, I slid a wooden popsicle stick under the plastic, thus stretching the plastic enough to get the tabs out of their holes without scratchng the unit.
The front cover is tethered to the unit by a cable attached to a circuit board which forms the back of the push-button control panel. On one side of this circuit board there is a row of 14 soldered connections. They are very close together, and any conductive contaminent that gathers between them is guaranteed to short them out. That's apparently what happened to mine, for scraping between them with a toothpick, and cleaning them with a toothbrush
brought the unit back to life again. That's all it took to repair my Comfort-Aire. The plastic cover snaps back
in place easily.

The LED control panel quit reading temp and now has a range between 19 and 31. What does this mean and how do I convert it back to temperature? The brand is Comfort Aire Model #RAD101-5-B Thanks for any...

That is Celsius, rather than Fahrenheit. To return it it Fahrenheit press the temperature up and down arrows at the same time and hold for 3 seconds. It should return to Fahrenheit.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a Comfort aire RAD 101-5 window AC. It works fine until it gets really hot outside and then sounds like it's bogging down and the compressor shuts off.

The drivers side window auto up/down quit

1. Start the car and leave it idle.
2. Hold the window button down all the way, until the window is completely down.
3. Let go and push it down again and hold the window button for 2 to 3 seconds then let go. (You should be able to hear or feel (very faintly) the motor/sensor reset.)
4. Pull up on the window button and roll the window up until it is all the way up, when it is up let go.
5. Pull the button up again for 2 to 3 seconds. (You should be able to hear or feel (very faintly) the motor/sensor reset.)

Geko 101 wouldn't turn off. Removed/inserted batts, wont turn on

Press the power on button while holding OK until the unit switches on- that puts the 101 into Service mode. Then press the up key until the screen contrast is about right. (or press the down key... to make it darker). You'll be able to see if all the tests pass. Then when you're happy with the setting, turn off.
