Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

Want to open gateway keyboard to clean

Trying to thoroughly clean gateway keyboard. Bought computer in 2002. Back shows Model P/N RT3602V:5STW E, with 7003604 under barcode. Have all the screws out, keys off, but there seems to be something holding it together in the middle. Can I just pop it open or will that mess it up so I can put it back together again?

Is it possible to open it/separate front & back without damaging it?

It's so cruddy, it would be great if I could put the topside in some soapy water.

    If not, then okay....

Hi, im trying to install windows 7 ultimate onto my gateway. I bought it retail from best buy and am having problem with the install... is it factory set for me not to be able to install an operating...

If you bought a full retail version and not an upgrade, you may need to do a fresh installation of windows. You also need to make certain that your gateway model is able to upgrade to windows 7. Checking your computer's support page, there are no BIOS updates available. Your computer should be fully capable of upgrading to windows 7 from windows Vista. ALso looking at Gateway's support page for this model, there are no drivers offered for Windows 7. All drivers offered are for windows Vista. I have seen computers in the past that will not tolerate an operating system change from the system that was installed at the factory.

If you have a restore partition, you can back up your data, and do a clean install of windows after formatting your hard drive. You may also want to make recovery disks for your computer in case the Win 7 will take on your computer or you cannot get your hardware to work with Win 7 since Gateway offers no Win 7 drivers.
Good luck. Take precautions to back up data and be able to revert to your original factory settings if necessary.

I think the solution bit is went inside those keys. Try to dry the whole laptop with the use of the fan, hair dryer etc. If still the problem is there then better to take it for service center to check thoroughly because as you suspect the key may be gone bad completely.

Trying to remove keyboard from gateway mx3228 just do not know how please help!

I'm not 100% sure about gateway but you can usually download the service manual from the manufacturers web site. Go to their support page and enter your model + service manual or keyboard replace in the search window your should be able to find it and download it then. Be aware most of the time changing the keyboard on most laptops means just about taking the whole computer apart.

Gateway USB ports stopped working

So maybe you need to install the drivers for the USB device you are trying to connect. Also, with the computer off, try cleaning all USB ports and plugs. You can buy electrical cleaner in a spray can at Radio Shack. Let it dry thoroughly before powering up. But to me it sounds like a driver problem. Unless maybe your USB BUS is going bad.
