Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washer will not spin and when it gets to the spin cycle, it will try to run for a few seconds before the surge protector kills the power to the machine.  I thought it was the motor, but I'm weary to buy a replacement motor and not be able to return it if that doesn't fix my problem.  Then I'm out 130 bucks and still have a broken machine.  It sounds like the motor is trying to work, but I can't tell if it's stressing itself or if the transmission is locked up (?) and it's loading the motor.  Is there a way to troubleshoot this any better (minus many years of experience).  Any ideas?  Thanks!!!

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, that didn't do the trick.  The motor still sounds like it's under a load, but is not actually spinning.  Again, appreciate the thought, though.

Maytag washer starts drain pump and nothing else works

best guess timer issue
timer runs all the water ins and outs and wash cycles
or depending on model electronic controller board

not sure why the machine is unplugged often
it is worth buying a one plug surge protector

hint
unplugging to fix any washing machine during a set wash cycle only interrupts the timer
spinning the timer around fast to restart an unfinishied cycle .damages the timer

My the front load washer model gcvh6900jww has the red lock on the display. I accidentally held the start button for a few seconds and it locked. I tried holding the start button again for up to 20 seconds...

  1. Found This HelpfulSometimes something will go wrong in your washing machine that will cause it to lock up or stall. An overloaded washer or a brief power surge can cause this. The washer may not drain or spin properly, or it may stop the cycle in the middle of the wash. Another cause may be that the washer was stopped before the cycle was able to complete. In this case, the washer will spin and drain over the next 24 hours, but it will stall before reaching the final spin. GE has two simple methods to reset the controls
For Newer Washers:
    • 1 Unplug the washer.
    • 2 Twist the control dial around the cycle settings.
    • 3 Place the dial on any setting other than the final spin.
    • 4 Ensure that the water line is securely attached to the washer.
    • 5 Plug the washer back into the wall (making sure it has gone at least 30 seconds without power).

Cotton program stuck on wash cycle with 1 minute left

Control board needs to be replaced. Many times the control boards go bad because of a spike in the electrical grid cause by a brown out, lightening strike or even a surge in the power. After the control board is replaced... I suggest using a surge protector on all of your electronic devices including the washing machine.

Sounds like the brushes are struggling to get enough power to the motor to spin. Renew motor brushes

Technician a says that a line condition protects a computer system from high-voltage surges and low-level voltages.technician b says that a surge suppressor protects a computer system from high-voltage...

Hi,
Line conditioners and surge protectors both help to prevent voltage in your devices from shooting up and damaging computers, game consoles, or other machines which use a power cable rather than batteries. In everyday use line conditioners can prevent changes from voltage in making the lights or dim or brighten, meaning you can have a consistent supply of 120 volts per second.
Surge protectors on the other hand are smaller and cheaper than line conditioners, these prevent high-voltage from being transmitted to your device, so excessive power doesn't cause your machine to die, or suffer catastrophe. Surge protectors needs to be replaced every few years so in the long run this can make them more expensive than line conditioners.

There is power to the washer, water will drain

Try unplugging machine for 30 seconds then plug back in then lift and close the lid 5 times which will reset the motor. Try the spin cycle if it works you may have had a power surge which took the motor out and just needed reset. If it fails you may have a bad inline fuse or motor.

Probably the main control board, you will need a technician to diagnose. Make sure you get a 2000 joule wall mount surge protector or higher to prevent this from recurring. You cannot use a surge protector on a power cord as moisture can get into it and cause an electical fire.

Model ATF6000751. Replaced speed control board a month ago when final spin failed. Worked fine until yesterday. Could something else be causing the board to go bad?

Power Surges. In my area we suspect that 70 to 80% of the repairs here are caused by power surges. They happen all the time, andyou do not have to lose power to have one. They can happen when you have lightning, windstorms or beutiful sunny days. You have to have a 2000 joule surge protector or higher on your washer, refer, microwave oven, and gas stove or dryer if you have them. For your washer , gas dryer, and refer you have to have a rectangular box wall mount surge protector. You cannot have a power strip surge protector on a cord as moisture can get into it and cause electrical fires. I have seen three major fires caused by power strips behind washers. Lowes and Best Buy sell wall mounted box surge protectors with a 2150 joule rating that have 3 plugs on each side that rotate from front to the side so that you can plug your refrigerator into the side and not have the refer sit out from the wall any more. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.

We moved our TV from it's normal spot (hooked into different power source and cable outlet) and now it's dead. It won't turn on at all. We moved it back to it's old spot and still no luck. We bought it...

If it was plugged in during a power surge without a surge protector, there is a possibility it could be dead. Or if it was plugged into a new outlet without a surge protector, especially if it was never properly shut off before the move, that could kill it. Try unplugging everything and letting it sit for 30 seconds, then try again (with a surge protector if you have one)
