Can't get English

1. Download English manual here.
2. Tap the screen to bring up the Main Menu.
3. Tap 'Change Preferences' icon (it has different name under it in Spanish, but you can view the icon itself at page 8 of the manual).
4. Tap 'Show all menu options' icon (page 33 of the manual)
5. Tap 'Change language' icon (page 36).
   

Not all sound files speak out the street names. If you want, street names spoken, you need to select a voice that ends with computer. For example, the voice file selection: Simon, English UK, Computer will speak street names. But the voice file, Bonnie, English US, will not speak Street names. Dave, English US, computer will give you street names but Lori or Mandy, English US will not. Procedure to get the street names spoken: Tap on main screen. Tap on change preferences. Tap on arrow. Tap on change voices. Tap (select) a voice that ends with computer. Tap select. Tap done till you reach the main screen.

To change the language to English on this unit do the following

1) First make sure the unit is fully charged as you will need to proceed with a reset of the unit.

2) Once the unit is fully charged - press and hold the on/off button for at least 15 seconds until you see it perform a restart.

3) Once you are sure it has restarted turn the unit on normally and you will see a screen filled with text. This will probably not be in English so tap the little tab in the right hand lower corner of the screen to proceed.

4) Now tap anywhere near the centre of the screen which brings you to a main menu.

5) You will see 6 icons on this screen. Tap the one right in the centre of the bottom row.

6) Now Tap on the right arrow icon (which is on the righthand bottom of the screen) until you see a screen appear with an icon with three flags. The three flags icon will be in the top left hand side of the screen.

7) Tap the three flags icon - you will see English appear in the options list - tap this and chose Yes to confirm.

If you follow this procedure exactly the unit will display English language screens from here on in.

your xl will not say street names if its using a human voice, because it can not convert text to speech

you have to use the computer generated voice option to utilize the text to speech feature.

tap the map screen, the go in the preference option, then locate the change voice option.

on my xl its on the 4th page but your 330 may differ slighly.

it probably wont tell you which are computer or human generated, so youll have to experiment.

Try this site to translate what is on the screen then you can select the options to change the language back to English. Set the translation from German to English.

You can change the system language with the following procedure:

1.) Go to the main menu.
2.) Touch the DS icon at the bottom of the screen.
3.) Select the pink icon, then a menu will appear. Touch the
3-D sphere to show the languages.
4.) Select "English", press the A Button, and your done!

the tip shared in the first paragraph of rhong on Nov 28, 2008 was PERFECT , it is not only to press start color and back key with power button until it shuts down it is to turn the power button on while pressing the back and start color keys.. a little note comes on the screen saying "lang cleared" ...

Not sure if the steps will be the same with the One XL model. (I have the One 3rd Edition)...but it's worth a shot. My guess is that you will have more options and therefore more icons, and they could be on different "pages" of the menus, but if you can find the same icons, it will probably work. Tap the main part of the screen to bring up the main menu. You want to click on the blue "wrench" icon. Then, click the arrow (the blue triangle) until you see the icon with 3 waving flags, and click on it. Then scroll down to select either English UK or English US.

press menu button on the click wheel until you get to the main screen (screen doesn't change anymore) select the 3rd option down, then the 13th option down. then english
