Question about Breville Conical Burr Coffee Grinder - Stainless-Steel

1 Answer

The on/off button comes off consequently machine isn't working

The on/off button on our breville conical burr grinder keeps popping off. We just put it back in. Though when this occurs, the burr grinder has trouble working, or it doesn't work at all. It might sound like it's about to start but will stop in 1 second. Is there something simple we can do to fix this? Or do I need to take it to get it fixed? Or do I need a new one...? Thanks!

If you are handy the switch needs to be replaced. Soldering may be rquired and there is very little wire to pull. You can get a rocker switch at radio shack plus you need a triangular driver bit for base screws, It's really a poor design on a good grinder. You actually NOT have a switch and just hard wire it. I fixed mine for 3 bucks and an hours time

My wife accidentally put water in the grinder compartment

the water weight may be confusing the grinder. it may think that it doesnt have a cluster of beans that need to be ground. luckily you might get away with fixing this issue without the aid of newelectronx coffee tool repair set. i would recommend a simpler approach. all it requires is a roll of paper towels. take a paper towel and wipe down all the internal surfaces until the paper towels come away dry without water.
if you have to remove the grinder i would recommend removing the side panels and allow it to air dry before further use

My grinder does not grind anymore. The machine sounds normal but the beans shoot out basically "cracked" into chunks. I have cleaned the entire unit and even bought new beans. But no luck.....

im only guessing here but id assume that the space between the burrs is likely controlled with a spring or something which has probably broken leaving the burrs as far apart as possible, if you gut the machine you may just be able to fix it with no parts if its simply a spring thats come off, the only other possibility i can think of is that your burrs or whatever they connect to are broken somehow, but all these are only guesses as im not familiar with your machine, my motto is if its broken you may as well pull its guts out to see if you can fix it, youve nothing to lose and youd be surprised how often it works

Severe clogging

Try using long grain white rice works better than minute rise, if that does not help, then the burrs need to be replaced on grinder.

Why is the grind from my Breville BCG450XL in the finest position coming out like a drip grind with a fair amount of dust mixed in? I have an old Solis with exactly the same conical burrs which is grinding...

The Breville was designed to be used with Pressurized Portafilters, which most Home Espresso Machines have. These filters use a courser grind, so when it says Espresso on the Breville, it's really closer to Drip. The Turkish setting is barely fine enough for Espresso. There is a limiter on the Breville that prevents the user from going any finer, if you crack it open and remove the limiter, you can go as fine as the Solis. Becareful though, the burs can come so close to each other that they can chip and break.

I cleaned my Breville grinder and tried to put it back together but the bean container will not fit back in. Please help.

This might be it. On the bean container there is a white dart and the word 'align'. The same dart and word appear on the top of the grinder. Align the two darts and the bean container should drop right in.
