Low flame, low temperature, yellow flame: This has become the biggest problem with many grills these days and it's almost always because of the regulator (the funny UFO shaped thing on the gas hose). Regulators seem to be stickier these days and when they stick you don't get enough gas to generate a good grilling temperature. To get your regulator unstuck you need to release the pressure on it. Follow these steps exactly:

  1. Turn off the gas at the propane tank
  2. Disconnect the gas line from the tank
  3. Open the grill lid
  4. Turn all control valves to high
  5. Wait for about a minute
  6. Turn all control valves to off
  7. Reconnect the gas line to the tank
  8. SLOWLY turn on the gas at the tank
  9. Light the grill normally
  10. Your grill should now heat normally
To keep the regulator from sticking again make sure that you turn off the control valves first, then turn off the tank valve. Always open your tank valve slowly. If this doesn't work give it a second try. If you still have low flame then you probably have a faulty regulator that will need to be replaced.

Can't get the heat higher than 375 degrees, we've reset the regulator and cleaned everything but still can't get it any hotter. The flame is quite low also, do you have a solution?

If the is still "quite low", the problem lies with the grill's regulator and how you turned the tank ON.

To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or hardware store that sells grills & accessories. If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

One burner will not burn unless you hold in the control knob as though it is being ignited and also has lot temp. when cooking even on high heat setting....thanks

If this is an LP grill and the flames are very low when all the burners are on, then try replacing the regulator and hose.

Very low flame, can not see it burning bu feel heat

The Gas line Regulator to the tank is probably locked up. Turn the tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (slow motion, slow). Once the tank vale is fully open try lighting the burner and turn it to the highest setting. Do the flames look as they should? If so, you solve the problem. If not, are you sure you have enough gas in the tank to sustain the burners on high? If the gas level is Ok, then you will need to replace the Hose/Regulator Assembly, as the regulator has gone bad. You can purchase one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you solve the problem.

LOW HEAT WHEN CONTROLS ARE ON HIGH

gas regulator make sure all burners are off when you connect bottle... the units have a leak sensor and will stop the gas coming out because it thinks you have a leak when you connected the bottle. now try hooking up the bottle again with all the burners closed incl. the side burner and the infa red. It will work o.k. then

My grill burners burn unevenly and usually too high. Adjustment?

If this is a natural gas grill, check to see if it has a regulator on the gas line. If it does not, you can install a regulator to reduce the gas flow.

My weber gas grill will not heat up past 300F

Hi John,

I just experienced the same exact problem ! I just bought a brand new Weber E-310 a 3 burner grill.
After I seasoned it up with cooking oil,I turned all the burners to high, opened the tank and clicked electrnic button several times , the grill was on then I went inside, I came out about an half-hour later and it was saying around 275 degrees..
I looked into my manual and there is a gas limit control valve that shuts down gas flow, when it thinks there is too much gas flow.

Sloution;
Turn the propane gas knob to off
Turn the gas grill knobs to Off.
Click the igniter several times to clear out any gas.
Then unscrew the regulator from the tank,( I then blew into the tank hole and regulator),
Screw back on the regulator to the propane tank.
I then clicked igniter again couple of times.
Now open your propane tank.
Then turn on front burner while clicking igniter, this will lite 1st burner.
Then turn 2nd burner on low then to high.
And if you have 3rd burner or more, turn low then to high!

John I did this and my grill went to 600 plus in a few minutes!!

The problem was turning the gas grill knobs on first then opening the tank then lighting...
You have to open propane tank with knobs off, THEN AS SOON AS YOU TURN ON 1ST KNOB, YOU MUST IGNITE ...

Low and Slow heating to temperature on grill

Hello,

Here are some tips:
Check: The excess flow safety device, which is part of the barbeque to cylinder connection, may have activated.

Fix: To reset the excess flow safety device turn all burners control knobs and the cylinder valve OFF. Disconnect the regulator from the cylinder. Turn burner control knobs to HIGH. Wait at least 1 minute. Turn burner control knobs OFF. Reconnect the regulator to the cylinder. Turn cylinder valve on slowly. Then use your like you normally do.
Now the line is purged.
