To remove the clutch remove the four screws that connet the trimmer shaft to the engine, remove the shaft. Then insert the correct torex head driver into the center of the clutch cover. There is a screw (the same head as the screws that holds the trimmer shaft on) Remove the clutch cover, insert a screwdriver into the engine cooling fins to hold the engine from rotating and turn the clutch from the engine. The clutch had a remove arrow to help with the direction to turn in order to remove.

The starter pull cord on my gas trimmer will not pull.

Hi Mark
Perhaps a bit late now.... Just spotted this so I imagine it's all fixed by now.
But for others with this sort of problem.
Assuming the pull cord is not broken, stuck or tangled. Switch off or short plug to ground, for safety then remove the spark plug to allow the engine compression to escape. You should be able to turn the engine over really easy with the pull rope, otherwise the engine might be seized or the rotary pull mechanism jammed.
Also... can the shaft to the string line be rotated as in the crankshaft of the engine.
Good Luck

  • Hole in the end of the clutch housing where the cable slides in has a # 20 torx screw in there.
  • Pull the spark plug, stuff some rewind starter rope in the plug hole, use a water pump pliers and turn off the clutch plate(s). NOTE: curved shaft trimmer will be a standard right-hand thread, straight shaft will be a left-hand thread.

Homelite hlt25cs, pull starter cord, wont engage starter clutch, cant find how to access it

hello sir, ryobi trimmers and other models removal of the bell housing, removal of the metal bell housing,or clutch drum, on models 780R & 790R, here is what you do. after removing the trimmer & shaft assembly.remove the spark plug insert a screwdriver in the cylinder to keep piston from moveing. to remove the bell housing twist off the spring and using a T20 TORX screwdriver unscrew the retaining screw in the center of the bell housing (normal r/h thread) . push down firmely try not to strip screw head . you should be able to remove clutch housing.remove clutch using a pair of channel locks, works for me, (normal r/h thread) you should be able to remove front engine cover to repair what you need to.coil, pull stsrt, hope this works,. this solution applies to all trimmers with clutch removal~~~hope this helps,,any comments welcome, thank you. ``

Need diagram to put on starter drive clutch ***.for 1985 1340cc harley

To replace the starter drive clutch on your 1985 model Big Twin, first disconnect the battery. Drain the primary and remove the primary cover. Remove the starter drive shaft that has the clutch on it. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise equipped with soft jaws and remove the nut from the end of the shaft. The nut is the round piece on the end that has two flats for a wrench to fit. It has LEFT HANDED THREADS. Remove the starter drive and replace it with a new unit. Replace the nut using Loctite 271 red and put the starter drive shaft back in. Make sure you purchase a good starter drive clutch. Avoid the Chinese units as they don't hold up very well. If you need a diagram, go to this site. http://www.bikebandit.com/1985-harley-davidson-fxst/o/m1502#sch209973

I want to access the pull cord reel on a Ryobi trimmer PLT 3043YE

This appears to be a model only sold in the UK but it looks like the standard, Ryobi,Homelite,Toro, trimmers we have in the states. You have to remove the 4 screws that hold the motor to the shaft to access the recoil starter. Once apart it will become evident how to remove the starter parts. Hope this helps.

Shrieking Lawnmower!! I hit small tree branch w/ walking non-drive 3.75 hp Briggs and Scrap-Iron "Sprint" off-brand gas mower. Started shrieking like banshee. Resulted in tangled pull-cord. So I removed...

sounds like you have dirt in the recoil clutch, (under the screen) or you bent something there. try removing the clutch and make sure shaft is very clean and lightly coated with oil. This would be for a briggs and stratton engine.

Mt ryobi pull cord shreaded and part of it is in the weed eater how do i replace

Go to following site http://hcpi.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartSAPI.dll?MF
Then type in your model no.
Do not know your model no. but normally you have to remove the shaft. First remove the throttle cable from carb. and disconnect the switch wires from shaft. Then pull shaft out of motor housing. There should then be a couple of screws in the shaft housing, remove them. You will then have to remove the clutch and drum, notice if there is an arrow on the clutch to show which way to remove. Use a brass or copper bar to strike the clutch to loosen in direction shown. If you have compressed air and an impact that would be a better choice. Now remove the four screws holding the starter housing and you should be at the starter rope.
