After starting the Check Engine light comes on and the cruise light flashes. Also the car will idle but not rev.

It is -20 actual here. I started the car and drove down the street. Turned it off and ran a quick errand. 5 mins later the car started but the check engine light came on and the cruise light started flashing. The car would idle fine but when I presses the accelerator, nothing happened . . . no reving. I should mention, the car had major interval servicing with in the last 4 weeks.

Impossible to diagnose without the trouble codes. Get the codes read and post here. ALWAYS start by reading the trouble codes to get a starting point.

SOURCE: 1996 Subaru Legacy No Power At All

Last night I checked the battery and it was still good. I disconnected and then reconn ected both terminals and that brought the power back. When I turned the key the power went out again. I repeated the procedure but did not turn the key. Instead, I took off the knee bolster and tried to wiggle the wires under the dash to see if I could find the source since it seems to be related to the ignition. Nothing cut the power so I started it up and it worked fine except for the check engine light which was flashing that says I have a misfire condition. I drove the car 25 miles to work this morning and will be taking it to the dealer for a better inspection.

SOURCE: check engine light and flashing cruise light always on

To properly diagnose problem and the seriousness of it, you should either purchase an OBD2 code reader or take it to a mechanic to read the code and diagnose the problem based on the code. I've also heard you can go to an Autozone store and their staff will let you use their code reader for free.
The OBDII port is located just inches below the steering wheel.

SOURCE: 2004 subaru forester, 99,000 miles. Check engine

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the great suggestion . I'll have Autozone read the codes on Monday. Thanks again!"

SOURCE: ABS Light and Check Engine Light on, Cruise light flashing

I had this occur on my 2007 Subaru Tribeca. ABS, Traction Control, Check Engine lights were solid, Cruise Control light was blinking and "Er SS" (commonly misread as Er 55) displayed on Trip Odometer. All lights were cleared after 10 or so miles. It appears this is a Speed Sensor (SS) reading error whereby the computer notices an irregularity with the readings taken from the four wheels. Most often it is a temporary and harmless glitch and sometimes a result of debris that is impeding the sensor's reading at one of the wheels.

SOURCE: check engine light, cruise control light flashing,

Take the car to Autozone or similar business for a free code read with a scanner. Depending on what turns up, they will be happy to sell you any needed parts.

have vechicle code scan at auto zone or any auto parts store for free see what causing check engine light to flash on.could be faulty idle air control motor if you have problem with idling going up and down but code scan vechicle first before buying new parts.

Service engine soon light started flashing then started to idle erratically

It sounds like it could be the o2 sensors, the mass air flow sensor, or the idle air control valve, take the vehicle to your local auto parts store and have them connect their scanner and pull the codes.

Hi

You need to go to a shop with a code reader. The check engine light was telling you something and you need a code reader. Depending on which country you are in, if in the states autozone may have it for free.

Whatever initiated the light is now messing up the other parts of the car.

Hope that helps.

The engine revs up when its is idling

Sounds like either an idle air control valve or a TPS sensor. These items will cause a check engine light to come on as well.. I recommend heading to an AUTOZONE or an AAMCO and you can get the check engine light checked for free. Hopefully you dont live in California cause then you can only go to AAMCO cause AUTOZONE cant do it in California. Good luck
