You can also just set to bar or just allow the MAC address that can access the router's utility page and the internet.

If you want to then set the MAC address that can only access the router. Any other MAC not listed will not gonna access anything from the router.

There is a reset button on the back of the router. You need to press and hold it for about 10 seconds. That should reset the router to the factory defaults. To make your router more difficult to hack, consider using WPA2 for authentication and AES for encryption. If your clients don't support this (not all do), then WPA is preferable to WEP. When chosing a PSK (private shared key) or password, use a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers; avoid using words; if all devices support it (and sadly, some don't), use special characters. A reasonable password would be something like this: g00DP&$$pHraaz.

I want to stop my neighbors from using my router/modem, can you help me?

Hello

All you need to do is to to enable the router security, which will enable you to add a password.

HERE is how you do it:
Type 192.168.0.1 (this will get you in your router) and once you're in, go to the "Security" tab or option and click on WEP or WPA, select the encryption, choose a password and click save or apply.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

How do i block someone from illegally stealing my wireless intern

Hello,

You have two options to stop someone from stealing your wireles connection.

The first is to use a more secure encryption.
Use WPA2 personnal with AES encryption.
You can set this security mode by logging on to your router and changinhg the wireless security.

The next solution is to turn on MAC filtering and make sure her computer is not listed as a safe MAC address.
This is also turned on from the router.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Pat

My pc will not access my new wireless router

Hi there, and welcome to FixYa.
You have got yourself a very friendly neighbor, but give him/here coffee, not access to your network.
- what you have to do, is to find the reset button on the back of the router, press and hold for about 5 seconds with power on, and you have reset it to factory standard.
DO SET THE ADMIN password as the first thing you do, so that your neighbor can’t access your router anymore.

Give your network a network name so that you can find yours if there is more around you. Network name are called SSID, short for service set identifier
Now, go to Wireless -> Wireless connection, to set the Encryption security settings.
Set security mode to WEP,
Set the Transmit key to your choice, if you know that you wireless card has 4 keys as well, I would use key 4.
Set WEP encryption to: 128 bit 26 hex digits.
Go down to key 4, and find a combination of numbers and the letters a, b and c.
(ex. 414243444546474849404a4b4c) = 26 hex digits.
Save settings.
Now, before you leave, WRITE DOWN your SSID, your new password and key 4 with your settings, as you need to set your wireless card with the same settings.
Start -> settings -> network and right click your wireless connection and click properties.
At the top, choose Wireless network, find your network, (your SSID) choose properties and set these settings as you wrote down from the router.

Now, remove the cable and logo on wireless…..

Need help using router

First of all your neighbor must be able to reach your signal. When they start up their wireless application they must be able to see your SSID, and have enough signal strength to actually connect and do meaningful work. This might be the case already, or you may need to put in a repeater closer to your neighbor. You r neighbor could also purchase an external directional wifi antenna from radio shack to improve reception. I have used Cantennas (look like a Pringles Can) before and they work ok.

Once you have signal then you just need to give your neighbor the password to your wifi network for them to enter into their network application. This password was setup when you setup the wireless network. You probably wrote it down, or it is a common password that you use.

The rest should be seemless, depending on the signal strength.

Wireless question

HP really has very good support--call and speak with a live person, and you should be ok, or else have a problem identified which might require use of your warranty, if it is still in place. You can also troubleshoot setting up a wireless network yourself using XP or Vista help--they are not too bad. Do you use a router? if so, you need to set it up for encryption, or anyone can use it (like a neighbor).

Cannot detect wireless connection

i encountered the same problem with WEP Encryption on my router.
I changed the security setting on my Router to WPA Encryption and then entered the key, when prompted, and voila it worked.
Don't know if this will affect any of the other devices you have connected.
There may also be Encryption for WEP&WPA on your router which may be less painful.
