Question about Sony VAIO Digital Studio VGN-AR320E Notebook
I have a Sony Vaio and all of a sudden a horizontal colored strip appeared down the middle of the screen
Those issues can be caused by either loose connector cable between the display and the motherboard. Or a fault in the video adapter / card. Last possibility is faulty display panel.
To find out if the video adapter is the cause you could connect the laptop to a external display a crt or lcd (the display that is used by your desktop pc, you should have a connector on the laptop for somekind of external display)
if the horizontal strip appears on the external display then the fault is internal on the video card, and there is no home fix.
Is the laptop covered by warranty?
Most of these causes can't be home repaired, the loose cable can be easyly repaired at home, but a faulty motherboard / video adapter is very difficult to repair. The lcd panel also would most likely have to be replaced if it was the cause.
If the lines appear after some time of using the computer, they could be a sign of overheating or damage from overheating.
