Freezer is not freezing on Maytag MZD2766GES

Just moved the wide by side from one house to another and now the freezer is not freezing (even on the coldest setting) and the refrigerator is not as cold as it should be. It did work for a couple of days, but now it seems like it hasn't worked for about a week.

To answer Techism and micbeth1981's questions:

When we moved it, we did lay it on it's back for about 20 mnutes. When we placed it back upright, we did not plug it in for about 6 hours. It did work for a few days, but now the cold air coming form the vents is somewhat cold, but not cold enough for the freezer. I would say it is about 37 degrees (roughly).

The compressor is running but there is no frost build up on the inside of the freezer. I have not yet taken the external back panel off of the freezer to see if there is any ice build up.....

When you lay a frig. on it side for any amount of time it is a good idea to let it sit over night to let all the compressor oil drain back into the comp.you might have already fouled the compressor, unplug it and let it sit for a few days and see what happens and let me know-mike

When you lay a refrigerator on its side oil from the compressor can seep out into the tubing and cause a restriction in the sealed system. This will cause only a small amount of cooling to occur and needs a licensed technician to fix it.

I have a frige that won't freeze. fridge side won't get cold

This seems to be a common problem with these refrigerators. I had the same problem a while back. Sounds like your defrost board is dead. part number is 12002104. You can find it at searspartsdirect.com

"maytag plus wide by side is not getting cold enough"

The defrost thermostat is failing on these machines as well as the adaptive defrost control.
The compressor start relay is on recall from Maytag also.

Your timer for the automatic defrost is defective. Replace it. If you thawed out the back of the freezer, this could be good for 3-7 days and it will freeze up again. I had the same trouble.

Freezer not freezing

Because it stopped cooling so fast, over night, I would make sure the compressor is running and the condenser fan motor that sits next to it.

Maytag Wide by Side (5 years old) Freezing Refrigerator & Freezer

There is 2 things you can replaced to rectify this problem .
1 is the defrost timer and the next is the thermostat.
On the thermostat is a metal rod that is connected to a vent so when you adjust it it open or closes the vent .Just make sure that is not loose because if it's loose even though you turn thermostat down the vent would be wide open allowing freezing air to get into refrigerator.

Maytag wide by side

Sounds like a defrost problem or dirty coils under the machine. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Maytag MZD2766GES side-by-side Refrigerator warm

is it frozen up? do you have any air flow thru the air tunnel from the freeze to the fridge? Check your air flow with the door switch pushed in. also check to see if the damper door opens... 1) if it is iced up you have a defrost problem. most likely a defrost timer. Turn off or unplug untill all the ice has melted off the evaporator back of the freezer..plug back in and it will work fine untill the ice builds up again. if this work you do have a defrost problem.. if not let me know and we can go deeper...
