The disk should install automatically. You can check if your USB ports are configured to USB 2.0 and not the older USB 1.1 (in the Bios).

Also check the Device Manager to see if anything is listed as unknown or other, which means you might need to update/install a driver.

Other external HDD troubleshooting tips might help.

How do you access the hard drive from other pc's apart from the one that it was originally installed on, the original is running vista and the laptop w7

You can share your harddrive.
for that open my computer then right click on harddrive icon then click on sharing and security.
Then share the drive and set permission to everyone to full rights or read or write.
Then apply.
then go to another computer then go to my network places then you can see shared drive.
Make sure both computer;s must in network.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Make sure you are logged in as the Administrator of your computer. Power cycle (turn it off and back on) the device. If that doesn't fix the problem. Try factory resetting the unit (depress the reset button on the back of the unit for 4-5 seconds).

Make sure you are at least using a CAT 5 cable with your device. You will want to do a couple things as well. Give your device a static IP address (manually configure the IP) from withing the devices interface (login to your device, System tab on the left and Network tab on the right). Next go to your folders you are wanting to share and click the DLNA button that corresponds with the folder you are wanting your media server to share out. You should be good to go.

Bought a new network hard drive 1tb iomega. Operating system requirements is XP. Saleman said it would update on line & work with windows 7. doesnot happen for me . Is it compatible or not? CD will not...

The drive will not update itself automatically. You will have to download the firmware update and update it yourself. You may also want to get the latest Manager software that is Windows 7 compatible.

Hello, I plugged in my iomega 1tb desktop hard drive storage device and the drive does not appear in my drive or computer. I do have the new hardware 'sound' that comes up but I dont have the drive show up...

Iomega 1TB Desktop Hard Drive is a dedicated usb 2.0 plug and play external storage device that has an ability to transfer at 480Mbits/second. having these large capacity storage drive needs a fast connection and additional power source to make sure to run the external unit system properly.

just make sure both power and data cables are properly plugged and connected respectively. if you are using it with a desktop, please always plug your usb connection from the Iomega 1TB external drive to the rear USB port in line where you built-in LAN is.do not plug it in the frontload ports. some motherboard manufacturers uses usb 1 and/or 1.1 only for frontload desktop casing provision.

thank you.

My Vista machine can't see the iomega network drive

You need to connect to the IOmega drive using windows xp and add a user.
In the explorer view in Vista at the top click on Map Network Drive.
At the bottom click "Connect using a different username" and enter the credentials that you created earlier.
In the box above for the location type in "\\IOmega's IP Address\Folder that you want to map".
Click on connect at the bottom should be done straight away and then you should be able to see it in "Network Places" as well. Let me know if this fixes the problem or not.
