Replacing toner with a new one - no manual

The Windows 7 driver should be found by Windows Update when you connect the printer with a USB cable. If you are using the printer in a network, you need to manually add a printer (using the wizard) from the Printers and Devices Control Panel. Start this after you have the printer connected to your router or switch. See https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879 and expand the section for Wireless or Wired Connection (Windows 7, Vista).

Is it the original Hp catridge or you refilled it..???? you've replaced the black... so no problem with black.... color catridge would have dried... so remove th color catridge and wipe thi lower part gently with a wet cloth....!!!

I would take the cartridge out, and use a qtip with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it to clean off the contacts on both the cartridge, and the corresponding one on the printer itself. It seems as though the printer is unable to get a signal from the cartridge so it is just displaying a generic 'out of ink' error.

There is very limited support for this model and none from HP. Windows 7 loaded a generic driver when you plugged in the usb cable. What you got is all you are going to get.
This is the pitfall of a new operating system and an older printer.

My 6980 is doing the same thing! Any solution yet?

Please have a look at this support tutorial. I think you will find that the plastic piece is the cartridge latch which holds the ink cartridges in place.

this time your printer is offline in the control panel... keep it online at your printer setting....

Hi there,

• Unplug the printer cable from the computer.
• Unistall the printer drivers from Device manager and also unistall the all the printer appications
• restart the computer
• Click Here to download drivers from the website
• after installing drivers and software it will ask you to connect the printer.
• then you can connect the printer and and try to Print the test page.
