Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Printer will not print in colour, only black. It is a Canon Pixma

I have had the printer, Canon Pixma MP540 for a week, it has been back to the shop 3 times. I have had them tell me it is working fine, I have done a couple of photo's in colour, were not bad. I have however tried to print documents from word and it does not seem to recognise the colours, prints in black. The inks appear to be being used all except the yellow which still shows full. I have been on to Canon and they say the inks may not be inserted correctly. The engineer I called out says they are!! I do not know if I have not aligned the computer and the printer or something is wrong that I have not thought of. Help please.

SOURCE: Will the canon pixma mp240 continue to print

you need to have both cartridges somewhat full to run, there is a initialization routine that the printer goes thru and if you don't have good cartridges with ink it won't let you print.

SOURCE: mp540 told me it needed

try reinstalling the cartridge, if still doesn't recognize you need to replace it with a new cartridge.

Canon mg5200 only prints photos

I have an MP540 and it says..."The PIXMA MP540 runs on five ink cartridges, with a photo black as well as a pigmented black for text printing" so it sounds like pigmented is for text and dye for pics. So maybe your default settings are showing high quality, photo or the paper type is causing the printer to select high quality...just a thought!

My MP540 is printing solid colour as stripes (cyan and magenta are low but not out) - has never done this before when inks are low

You probably have a nozzle that is not working. Try to do the alignment of the printhead, and do a cleaning!

One of my ink colours will not work, it is a full cartridge and it is not blocked which means I think it is to do with the printer itself. Is it possible that colour is being blocked inside the printer?...

Remove the color cartridge that is not printing
Shake the cartridge slightly and squeese it a little for 1 drop of ink to drop out.
This will remove any air that might be trap in the cartridge.
Do a couple of print cleaning cycles

Canon pixma MP540 printer: unable to print black ink pages....ok with blue etc.

Have you checked the ink level on the black ink cartridge? It's probably out. Or if it's a new cartridge, make sure the tape covering the connecter has been taken off.
