How do I get the printer to print automatically using the bypass tray

you can set the bypass tray the size you want then set paper size setting in the printer driver at your PC.

Hold down the [PAPER SIZE ENTER] key more than 5 seconds to
set the selected paper size.
The currently selected paper feed location indicator will blink and the
corresponding paper size (which is currently set) indicator will light
steadily.

All other indicators will go out.
If the machine has two paper trays, use the [TRAY SELECT] key to
select the paper tray for which you wish to change the paper size
setting.

Each time the [TRAY SELECT] key is pressed, a paper tray will be
indicated with a blinking paper feed location indicator.
Use the [ORIGINAL SIZE ENTER] key to select the paper size you want to set.
The indicator of the selected paper size lights up.

Press the [START] key and then the [PAPER SIZE ENTER] key.
To change the paper size setting of another tray, repeat steps
after pressing the [START] key

Make sure that the tray's paper size setting is the same as the tray's
paper size setting in the printer driver. For example, if the tray's paper
size setting is A4R (LT-R), set "Setting Paper Size" to "A4-R".

How do I get printer to accept paper size less than 8.5x11?

If the printer is set to use the paper size that's in the tray, you can just adjust the slider that's in the paper tray to the desired size. It should be a blue color. there will also be 2 other blue sliders on the side of the paper tray to adjust the width of the paper.

You may also have to adjust the paper size through the menu. I think its under Paper Handling. You can change the size for Tray 2 there to fit the paper you are trying to use.

I'm not sure of the correct paper size for my printer

The size of paper available to the printer and the size of paper in your software must match. If your document is formatted for 8.5 x 11 plain paper, that's what you should use.

If your document, in your software is set up for a different size of paper, you should only put paper of that specific size into the tray.

USe the Page Setup in the word processor. It is how the word processor uses the printer that matters. There you will find Custom and you can specify the page size.

I'm trying to print some photos on 4 x 6 paper. i selected notecard paper size, but the printer keeps printing the 4 x 6 photo on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

Are you telling the printer to use the smaller paper?
If it has 2 sizes it will keep using the last size used unless you tell it to change.

Prints at about half size

Assuming you're using windows: open up printers in control panel and right click on your printer. Click on printing preferences. Check that paper size is set for paper you're using and page layout is set for size of paper or not checked. Check that the program you're using for printing is using a standard font of 10 or 12 pixels and set for proper page size.

Paper size error

What that means is that you put in a size of paper that your printer can't use. Apparently, the paper you loaded was detected by the printer and was recognized as being a size it isn't designed to use. HP.com has a web page for your printer that tells you which paper sizes you can use for your printer.

Product Specifications

When the web page opens, scroll down to the Paper specifications area and look for the Paper sizes table. Use only the paper sizes that are listed there in your printer. Good luck.

My HP Deskjet F2100 All-in-one printer/scanner will not print a photo which is only post card size at less than A4 size when I use photo paper. It prints the correct size when I use plain paper.

just leave your paper type as Plain Paper,
and if your printing out a 5R size photo or photo sizes not exceed on Letter size paper, just leave the paper sizes using Letter,
print on both sides set as OFF.
then just customize the printing quality for a good printing result.
then load or place your photo paper properly on the paper tray to avoid jam.

There are two different ways to create a custom page size within the Epson printer driver on Windows 2000 or XP. The method you need to use will vary depending on what type of driver is installed.
CREATING A CUSTOM PAPER SIZE IN SERVER PROPERTIES
This method will create a new page size accessible by all printer drivers installed in Windows.
1. Open the PRINTERS (2000) or PRINTERS and FAXES (XP) window.
2. Click on FILE, then select SERVER PROPERTIES.
3. On the FORMS tab, place a check beside CREATE A NEW FORM.
4. Input a new name for the paper size. Enter the desired height and width, following the existing format (#.##in).
5. Click SAVE or SAVE FORM to add the new form size to the list, then close SERVER PROPERTIES.
6. Right click on the printer name and left click PRINTING PREFERENCES.
7. Look for PAPER SIZE. (Depending on the driver in use, this will be found on the MAIN tab, the PAPER tab, or under the ADVANCED button). Select your custom paper size from the list.
8. Click APPLY to save this setting, or OK in Windows XP.
NOTE: If your new custom size is not available on the list of preset paper sizes, it indicates that the new size is either too large or too small for the driver in use.
CREATING A CUSTOM PAPER SIZE WITHIN THE EPSON DRIVER
This method will create a custom size within the Epson printer driver only.
1. Open the PRINTERS (2000) or PRINTERS AND FAXES (XP) window.
2. Right click your Epson printer name and left click PRINTING PREFERENCES.
3. On the MAIN or PAPER tab, select USER DEFINED from the PAPER SIZE drop down box.
4. Enter the new custom size and give it a name. Click SAVE to save the new size and OK to return to MAIN.
5. Click APPLY to save the changes (OK in Windows XP).
NOTE: this method is not available when using printer drivers resident within Windows itself. If your printer driver name ends in "ESC/P2" you will need to use the first method to add the new size in SERVER PROPERTIES.
