Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I've just rebuilt my PC using a JW-N61P main board with and AMD athlon 6000 cpu. I have one SATA II drive, a pioneer DVD ROM, and a single floppy. I can boot the PC to BIOS level but can get no further. The PC shuts down when I attempt to save default BIOS settings. The Power supply is an Amcrox 750W true. Any clues as to the reason for the failure? Note that all hardware is recognised at boot up but I cannot get to the point where I can install new drivers. Mark

I disconnected the floppy and the DVD without success.

I then used another DDR2 chip and got the same result.

    Could be the motherboard?

    Thanks. No PCI devices installed.

However I did find the problem. The CPU cooler was faulty resuting in overheating and shutdown. I replaced the cooler and the PC stayed up.

How much power do I need for this board?

Power Supply Calculator,

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

A) System Type: 1 physical CPU (Processor)
B) Motherboard: High-end desktop (KN1 Extreme)
C) CPU Brand: AMD
4) CPU Socket: Socket 939

5) CPU: Lord only knows. I chose a Processor that uses Up To 89 Watts. AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2400MHz San Diego 1.35v

6) CPU Utilization TDP: 90% TDP (recommended)
(In otherwords leave alone)

7) Overclock my CPU!: Leave alone
8) RAM: 2 sticks of DDR SDRAM

9) Video Cards;
A) Video Brand: AMD (AMD owns ATI now)
B) Video Card 1: AMD Radeon HD5450
C) Video Card 2, 3, and 4: Leave alone
D) Video Type: Leave alone
E) Physics Processing Units: Leave alone

10) Hard Drives:
A) Regular SATA: 1 HDD

11) Go to Drives;
DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive: 2 Drives

12) Go back up to the right; PCI Cards:
I left alone. Only you know at present, if you are using one, or more of these types of PCI cards.

13) Go to Fans;
80mm / Regular / 2 Fans. (Just guess-timating)

All fields should be entered now. If not make adjustments to what I didn't know. Include in the proper field.

Now go to the bottom right, and click on - Calculate
(Calculate / Reset / Print )

I come up with 265 Watts.

Want to know EXACTLY what hardware is used inside; without opening the computer case?
Use the tiny free program, CPU-Z from CPUID.com

(Can help you download, install, and use, CPU-Z if you need.
I have used CPU-Z for years)

Can I install a none sata ide hard drive in a Asus Cm1630-06

lilpolak

Most motherboards have one IDE port on this that you can run 2 IDE devices off of. Note the main reason for this IDE port is not all ROM drives are SATA yet but you can run hard drives off this port as well.

Let me know if you have any more questions or problems

try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
good luck

Disc wont even load up, disc drive used to work but done a system reboot and now not, tried changing disc drives and that doesnt work.

hi there, it may be that the drivers for your CD/DVD drive may be erased. Go of Acer's website and see if they have your disk drives drivers and install them.

Computer crashes when playing games

you have ruled out the video card
and since cooling does not seem to be an issue on you cpu, your next step is to switch your power supply
after that one is ruled out,
your next replacement is your motherboard.

good luck man!

No usb ports are working, dvd drive do not burn.

If you are having multiple component issues you should probably check if the motherboard isn't acting up; usually this is the solution to many problems at one time since the motherboard keeps everything running together smoothly.

Check the inside of your CPU for dust and also check your configuration (via My Computer and right clicking on the appropriate drive) of your DVD writer.

Hope this helps!

Pc died

Hello, I have had similar problems with that same motherboard in the past and have found that resetting the cmos (see users manual) or just taking the battery of the motherboard for a few minutes can solve this. CAUTION please remove the power lead on your tower before touching any components inside, and earth yourself first by touching metal.. as static discharge kills pc components..
Hope this helps.....
