Sounds like you haven't formatted the external Hard-Drive.
You need to allocate a file-system to the free space on your hard drive. You can do that in Disk Management and use the format option. You can select from two file system formats: FAT32 and NTFS. I would recommend NTFS because it is a journalling file system (recovers quickly in case of a crash).

Step 1:
Problems with Verbatim portable hard drives vary depending on your model of hard drive, your operating system and your computer hardware. Some problems can include insufficient USB power output, the file system format, and potential overheating due to enclosure materials.

File System b> Verbatim portable hard drives come formatted for use with Mac computers. If you're using it with a Windows or Linux computer, you will need to format it to a file system that your operating system will recognize; Windows computers typically work with NTFS, while modern Linux distributions use ext4. If you have computers with mutliple operating systems, FAT32 is usually considered easier for all operating systems to recognize. Verbatim does not recommend switching a portable drive between PC and Mac computers once you've formatted the drive one way or the other. Adequate Power While most computers supply adequate power with one USB port, older computers can have insufficient power output. If your computer doesn't seem to be powering the drive, use of a Y-shaped USB cable, designed to be plugged into two USB ports, can get more power to run the drive. Additionally, consider trying different USB ports on the same computer; some USB ports get more power than others. Drivers b> Make sure that you have any relevant drivers related to the hard drive that you have purchased. If your drive didn't come with a setup disc, you can check the Verbatim website for product drivers. Overheating b> Of Verbatim's seven portable hard drives, four are enclosed in plastic; of the other three, one is enclosed in aluminum, one in leather, and one in rubber. While all the drives are tested to run well with their enclosure, metal enclosures conduct heat away from the hard drive and help to prevent overheating. Plastic, on the other hand, is an insulator, so plastic enclosures may contribute to heat buildup. Check plastic-enclosed drives for overheating and avoid leaving them plugged in when not in use.

My samsung G2 cant read, it ask to be formatted but it cant be completed n propreties shows 0 used space, 0 free space

Most likely the hd is bad. If you want to know for sure purchase a usb enclosure, break open your drive case and put the hd in the enclosure. That will tell you if it's the hd or the circuitry of your case.

CAN I USE MY HARD DISC WITH USB CONNECTION

Yes, you can. You'll need a little more hardware however. You can find "hard drive enclosures" at many computer stores, ebay and electronics stores. They look like these. In order to make this work, you need to determine the physical size and interface of the Samsung hard drive first. Most notebook drives are 2.5" and most desktop drives are 3.5" types (regardless of capacity). You'll need to find an enclosure for the drive size and interface type.

The Samsung drive is likely to be either and IDE type with a SATA (serial) or PATA (parallel) interface. Pictures of SATA cables are here, and PATA cables are here. You would select the enclosure depending on 2.5" or 3.5" size and SATA or PATA interface type. Lastly, would be to choose either a USB connection between the computer and enclosure, or an ESATA type. ESATA simply means External SATA. If your computer offers an ESATA jack on the front or rear panel, you might consider using it as it is much faster than USB. If you do not have an ESATA jack, stick with the USB type. All but the most oldest computers support USB 2.0 standard speeds, newer computers have a faster USB 3.0 speed (5Gbit/S) standard, but this hardware is fully backward compatible to the USB 2.0 & USB 1 speed (480Mbi/S) and hardware standards. If your computer has the original USB 1.x standrad speeds, you might consider purchasing a USB 2.0 or 3.0 expansion card as the USB 1.x standard is very slow (just 12 Mbit/S). Check these links for pictures of ESATA, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 If you look closely, you can see the slight differences. USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 look identical.

Some enclosures will require / include a power adapter for the drive. Make sure you get what is required to get the drive to spin up properly. After your computer is up and running, connect the external drive to the USB jack and let the computer install drivers as needed; then use it as any other thumb drive etc. ESATA however may be different. In any case, follow the instructions included with the enclosure you purchased.

After copying good data, you might be able to format and scan the Samsung drive and map out the errant portions. Even still, I would not use the drive for important information or day to day uses. If you do, be sure to maintain frequent backups.

Good luck!

Jumper settings to connect to mac

If the hdd is a 3 1/2" version you need a power supply to run it. The usb will only power a mini SATA 2 1/2 or smaller as the 3 1/2 needs 12volt supply as well.

Will read cd but doesn't play dvd

Hard drives are used for storing files or loading applications. A CD-Rom drive is what you need to read cd's and a DVD-Rom drive which can read both. You cant place a cd, dvd or blu-ray disc into a hardrive because it is enclose and does not have and open/close button for the tray to eject or close

My mini max 500gb has just stopped working. i cannot hear the fan at all and all my other daisy chained mini max hard drives still work and register on my desktop

Your Imega external enclosure has malfunctioned. If you can, you need to take the enclosure apart and take the harddrive out and test it with a computer desktop that has sata connectable, if your computer is able to read, then your iomega harddrive enclose suffer malfuction, if the computer isn't able to read the harddrive through the sata connection, then your harddrive is bad.

I think that your disk-drive is "SLIGHTLY" dead. :-(

Disassemble the enclosure.

Get the model-number and serial-number from the label on the disk-drive.

Access Maxtor's web-site, and check the warranty-status of the disk.

If the warranty still is valid, Maxtor will replace the disk-drive, at minimal cost to you.

If the warranty has ended, buy a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it into the enclosure, to "reconstitute" your external storage-device.

My Computer doesn't recognize Ion 320 GB Harddrive

Well if its lighting up, then the drive is receiving power, or the enclosure atleast. Forget that case, extract the drive, and seek out something more reliable and more solid. Preferably an aluminum enclosure with no fan.

seek out Weibetech.

Windows XP not recognizing the hard drives

On the first drive that does sound DOA if you bought it new, is less than one year old and the warranty hasn?t been voided you should be able to get a refund from the manufacturer. Second drive, have you tried connecting the drive enclosure to another computer as a test? If it can?t read the drive data either I would suspect the enclosure electronics are faulty. Also have you tried the firewire interface yet? Semper Fi, are you active or former?
