You will have to purchase another recorder. there is no way to hook this recorder to a set that has a HD tuner. Sd and HD will not mix. there are not any adapters that you can buy at this time to hard wire this situation at this time. im sure the HD techs are working on this as we speak but, it a ways down the road.

Sorry for the bad news there...

Will the Panasonic DMR-E30 DVD Recorder replace my STB to receive the digital free to air stations on my tv?

Only if it has a built in digital tuner, and, if it does, the digital is only SD (standard definition). If not, you would still need the set top box to receive HD (you could connect the box to the DVD recorder (for HD and/or SD) as required if you wish to record channels). Most set top boxes have both SD and HD channels in their tuners, so it would most likely be the next best option if your DVD recorder does not have a built in digital tuner. You can check your DVD recorder's on screen setup menu to see if digital services exist within it. Either way, keep your set top box just in case.

I am getting a whitish coloured fast flicker across the whole screen. Sometimes goes away for a few seconds. Does not appear when i use the TV as a monitor for the tuner in the DVD player so may be a tuner...

Hi, You have guessed it right. (tuner fault) I would suggest you can get a set top box, they have tuners built in. Just set your TV on ch 3 or 4 and you can run from the box. You can get them from your cable company or dish network. Good luck.

Does this model DVD/VCR recorder have an analog tuner or a digital tuner?

Is there a manufacture date on the back of it. The Commission's digital tuner rule specifies that as of March 1, 2007, all new TV sets must include digital tuners. I believe that rule follows when it comes to DVD players with built in tuners. If you bought this before that date then most likely its analog. I see in the owners manual has no listing for a digital tuner. So I would come to the assumption that its analog tuner. Hope this helps!!

I've an LCD with built in digital tuner, how do i

No the Tuner doesn't have an Output, so one cannot get a signal OUT of the Tuner, UNLESS there is a Tuner Out, A Monitor, OUT. Then you cannot get any signal to feed into the device you wish to record with. The signal MUST go to a TUNER first, then the OUTPUT may be fed to anything else. As said IF the Device with the Tuner HAS a way of outputting Video & Audio, then you can take that signal and record it, otherwise you cannot.

Cannot record whilst watching another channel

It requires two tuners to do what you want. Unless the DVD recorder has a built-in tuner, this is not possible.
Satellite company DVRs can do this because they can have multiple tuners inside them.

LG RH266 setup with freeview tv

Sorry to say no it wont not unless the Tv set manuel says it has a Duel Freeview feed , you have to get another freeview box for the recorder .
besides If you used the freview in the tv 1 , the tv would have to be on when you wanted to record ?. and 2 you couldnt watch another channel whilst recording another .. only 1 tuner ?. also you could only record the program you had on .at the time no timer facility .
People are still used to the Old system of VHs and the fact that all videos had tuners built in so you could watch and record .. It will come and indeed some more modern DVD recorder have freeview built in again sorry but thats the facts , and dont forget if you want the pay per view channels on free view your going to need a tuner with a pay card port ... Digital ready?

Deacon J,
You will need a digital converter box OR high definition tuner for the transition. What's the difference? A converter box will only output a standard definition signal, either on channel 3 or by composite or S video cables. A high definition tuner will allow you to watch the new digital broadcasts in hi-def, assuming they are transmitted in hi definition. The converter boxes are the cheaper option and you can get a coupon from the government for a $40 rebate on the box, but I would opt for the hi-def tuner fo the better picture quality.CNET has a good write up on the transition here:
http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-5108580-3.html
I did some looking and about the cheapest hi-def tuner I could find was $150, which is 3 times what a converter box would cost. I would expect the cost to fall on the tuners over time. Perhaps a converter box may be a good solution until the prices fall, if they do. The problem is that not many companies are making the tuners, as most TV's already have a hi-def tuner built in, so there isn't a big market for the add-on tuners. I hope this answers your questions.

Are 2 tuners needed for HDTV

No, You need 2 tuners for PIP (Picture-in-picture). Perhaps the confusion is that some HD TV's do not include tuners at all. This is fine if you are going to be getting a cable or satellite box for satellite or digital TV. But it's best to cover your bases and make sure the TV has a built-in tuner. 2 tuners are not needed and not all that common.
