Question about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera will not connect to computer properly.

Alright, so I'm trying to put the pictures from my Canon Rebel XS onto my computer. As usual, I simply use the USB cord that came with the camera to connect to the computer. As usual, when I turn the camera on, "BUSY" appears on the screen, meaning the camera is properly connected. The camera begins to pop up on the computer screen, however, about 5 seconds after I turn the camera on, "BUSY" disappears, and the camera won't connect. I don't know what the problem is because it does connect for at least 5 seconds, begins to open the camera on the computer, but then it disconnects and I didn't touch anything to make it do so. I've tried all the different USB slots on my computer, but I've had no luck. Help please?

It randomly started working again, so I should be fine.

But yeah, I did install everything on the CD. But I use Adobe Photo Downloader to download the files to my computer. Since I've been having this connection problem, Adobe Photo Downloader began to open, but then stopped when the camera disconnected. Anyways, no worries, since it randomly started working again. :|

When you got your camera it should have come with a CD ROM that you would need to download to your computer so the pics would have a place to go . Mine is Lexmark Imaging Studio. You will need some form of program inorder to download the photos. If you have this them let me know so you can try something else

I assume you're not referring to a film camera, but a digital camera that uses a memory card of some type.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Err 99, canon rebel 1000d EOS Rebel XS

Usually this error comes up when the golden contacts between the camera body and the lens are dirty or defective. You can try cleaning it with appropriate contacts solution and a microfiber cloth or simply by scrubbing them with an eraser (be careful though not to let fall any gunk or gum dust into the camera). Never touch those contacts directly with your fingers.

Another culprit may be a defective CF card, try a different one and see if something changes.

If this doesn't solve the issue and your camera is still under warranty, i suggest you to have is serviced from canon. When out of warranty solving this issue is going to cost you several hundred dollars.
Let me know if this helped, best luck

Pictures cut horizontally and shifted when downloaded onto PC

I am not very sure, but I think this could happen if your memory card is faulty. And if you were transferring the images directly using camera and its cable, try to change the method and use a memory card reader instead and see if things get better. I am thinking that you can see all the pictures just fine in the camera's display.

My pictures won't upload

You need to install the software for your camera and allow it to start when windows starts. That way, your pictures from your camera will be uploaded as soon as you connect it to your computer. Or try also to start the camera software and plug the camera to automatically upload images. To automate it, you need the software to run when windows starts. Simply add the software at system startup.
