Question about Philips 60PP9352 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Chirping Sound / Overloaded power supply

I have a Philips 60" plasma TV model #60pp9352. The TV initially had convergence problems and both the vertical and horizontal convergence chips and the 12 convergence resistors were replaced. After installation the TV work great for about 2 hour, when all of a sudden the TV turned off. The TV now make a chirping sounds and I get no picture and no sound. I have checked the AC Input board, Standby supply, which are both giving me the right voltages. The Full power supply is oscillating on and off. The Full power supply gives the correct voltages when jumper 9000 from the Horizontal Output circuit is removed. I have checked and changed the HOT transistor (7801) in the Horizontal Output circuit, since it was bad, but I still get the chirping sound.

It started with color convergence problems unable to ajust manuely then stopped turning on only makes a chirping sound when plugged in.

nfmstorm,

The chirping signifies that your switch mode power supply is being overloaded. You probably have a shorted horizontal output transistor. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4425451-when_you_turn_your_television_on_and_get which should help with the troubleshooting process and also the best places to get parts.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

Turn the TV on and it just make a chirping sound no picture

Without examing the set. IN general as a techs when they hear chirping noise is an indication of what is know as a Bad Flyback transformer; You may possibly have a shorted Horizontal Output Transistor or both that will need replaceing.

My philips 60" philips tv model 60pp9352 picture is squeezed at the middle (like an hour glass on its side), how can I fix?

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
You can see some example photos and find a solution here...

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit inlcludes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its an easy fix.

No picture, no sound, just chirping noise coming from back

NO - - signal did nothing to the set... Sounds like a shorted HOT (horizontal output transistor) and the feedback your hearing (chirp) is on the horz. transformer as it tries repeatedly to startup... Don't allow it to do that for too long...

No power just a chirping noise.

Chirping means the power supply is being loaded down by a short in most cases, likely a bad convergance IC
