Even when I am hooked up to pc
My ipod shows a good connection to the wifi signal, but I cannot connect to the internet for ANYTHING, weird thing is I try to access my mail and it never shows that I do, but occasionally when I touch the icon it shows the new e-mails that I have received and I am able to read them. I have only had this ipod since November, it is now May, and I have several hundred songs, some pics, some vids, and some aps on here. Don't want to restore cuz a lot of the stuff I had got off my friends' computers. Any solutions out there other than a full resotre? Oh and I don't have a computer so can't just sync my ipod to itunes, and even if I did it would erase the stuff I have from other ips and comps, or so it tells me.

Re: cannot get wifi on ipod touch
I would make sure your firmware is 100% up to date via itunes. And if its not update it to the latest version, it might be a 10 dollar fee or so to update it, but its well worth it and that will hopefully fix your problem.

To connect to the internet using wifi on the iPod touch, just follow the following steps: Firstly, you should be in a wifi zone(an area where you can access wifi) or if you want to use it at your house with your residential internet connection, just get yourself a wifi router(shouldn’t cost more than $50-60) and configure it with your residential internet
Once you are in a wifi zone, on your iPod touch, go to: Settings > Wifi > Turn your wifi ON > Select a wifi network > Key in the WEP(only if asked for) > Connect Once you’re done with this, you should get the IP settings and be able to surf the internet with no problem. Note: At times when you’re too far away from the wireless router or a big thick brick wall is separating you and the wifi router, your iPod might show the network as available and you would also be able to connect to it, but surfing the internet using it would become a problem. If this happens to you, don’t worry, just move closer to the wifi router and it shouldn’t pose any other problems. Happy Surfing!

iPod touch gets its internet from WiFi signal that it captures. If you don't have WiFi around you, you will not be able to connect to the internet.
To see if there are available WiFi connections around you, here's what you gotta do:
>on your iPod touch screen, go to Settings
>once the Settings window opens, you'll see Wi-Fi next to Airplane Mode (from the top). If your current not connected to any WiFi signal, it should say not connected beside it.
>tap on Wi-Fi and choose from the available networks on the list, but make sure that Wi-Fi is turned ON, first. If in case there's no WiFi signal around you, you still won't be able to browse the web.
>tap on any network from the list. often times, WiFi signals are secured, which means you should know the password to be able to connect, otherwise, you'll still get nothing.
you'll know that you're already connected when there's a check symbol on the left side of the network that you've just selected, and also, the WiFi symbol appears beside your carrier name.
Once you're connected, just exit the Settings window and go to Safari to browse the web.
Not all WiFi networks are actually connected to the internet - you could try connecting to different networks, or get closer to the access point. Sometimes, with mobile devices like phones and iPods, it tells you you're connected to the network but the signal is too poor and you end up not being able to actually do anything on it.
All you have to do to the ipod is go to settings, wifi and make sure its turned on in the same place you should see a list of wifi networks you can connect to just tap the one you want and the ipod will do its thing your done, but if you done all that and you ipod doesnt go online says connected but wont access the net, my guess is the wifi router you mite have some prob with that, make sure the internet ethernet cable is pluged into the modem plug not the numbered slots after this you should be good to go unless your wifi modem is new if so some req you to plug it to your computer via ethernet cable to program it first! Hope this helps
you may be showing wireless signal but not hooked up to the network. Go to Setting and click on Wifi make sure the switch is on and you show an available wireless network. you will have to enter the password for your network which is the wep key for your wireless router. should be on the bottom label of the router. once you do these things you should get connected.
did you setup a wireless network ? if you didnt go to control panal and then wireless network setup icon and follow instructions (select automatically provide network key option) then follow instructions and finish. once you did that, search through wifi on youf phone it should find your WNetwork and then connect and enjoy. if you want to use internet and have an ADSL modem, make sure that the modem is connected to the internet RJ45 plug on your router. and from router to PC.
