Scanner can't locate designated file when trying to SAVE

I go all through the Scanning process OK but when I try to save to a specific file, a SCANGEAR pop up shows "unable to locate file" I performed a disk cleanup and defragmented the C: drive but that didn't help. Any Ideas?

You need to have a selected file where all you scanned items are going to be saved at. if the destination doesnt accept the type of format of the document you are scanning it wont allow it...e.g JPEG to txt file.

When you scan a photo or document, the computer will need to save the new document somewhere on the system. You should determine (before the scanning process) where that document is being saved and what name it is being given.

Canon dr 6080 scanner is getting papers but i dont know where the scanned images are being saved and whether being saved or not?

What scanning software are you using? Once you initiate scan command, the software will ask for location (and format) where you want to save the files. After scanning, try & use 'Save as' command, by default it will go to where it is already saved. Alternatively, search for the file name under Windows.

How do I scan an item and send a copy to a friendI am using a Photosmart C5280 printer

Please follow the steps below to do a clean installation of your scanner.

The first thing we need to do is remove any files that have been installed and start with a fresh installation.

1) RIGHT-CLICK on the MY COMPUTER icon and click on PROPERTIES.
2) Select the HARDWARE tab, then the DEVICE MANAGER button.
3) Remove the Epson Scanner from under IMAGING DEVICE and/or UNKNOWN and/or OTHER DEVICES by RIGHT-CLICKING on it and clicking UNINSTALL.
4) Disconnect the USB cable and close all open windows.
5) Click on START, and CONTROL PANELS.
6) Double-click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Highlight EPSON SCAN and click on CHANGE/REMOVE.
7) Restart your computer.

DOWNLOAD

Please follow the steps below to download and install your scanner in XP:
1. Go to the website http://support.epson.com
2. Under the SCANNERS heading select PERFECTION SERIES and then your scanner model.
3. Under the Drivers & Downloads section select Windows.(Make sure it is the Epson Scan utility. Download the most current version of the Scanner Driver for your Windows operating system to your DESKTOP.

Reinstall

1) Double Click on the Epson1**.exe file that you downloaded to your DESKTOP.
2) Click OK, Unzip, and then OK again.
3) The installer will copy the files to the system. Click on FINISH when prompted.
4) Connect the USB cable. Windows will tell you new hardware is found and complete the install.
5) If a message appears indicating THE SCANNER HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO TESTING, click CONTINUE ANYWAY. Then click FINISH.
6) Your scanner is now ready to use.

Use the following steps to scan with the Epson Scan utility:
1. Open Epson Scan by going into START, PROGRAMS, and EPSON SCAN.
2. If prompted, select your scanner from the list of models and click OK.
3. In the FILE SAVE SETTINGS window, you can designate the location, name and type of file the scans will be saved as.

-LOCATION defaults to MY DOCUMENTS. Click BROWSE if you wish to change this.
-PREFIX determines how the scan will be named. Type any name you like. You can also designate a start number.
-FILE TYPE dictates what format the scans will be saved in. ie. .JPG, .TIFF, .PDF, or .PICT)
-For example: if the prefix is "img", the start number is "1", and the format is "JPG", the name of the file saved in
PICTURES will be "IMG001.JPG". More settings for file format are found under OPTIONS.

  1. Click OK once settings are changed as desired.
  2. The EPSON SCAN window will open and begin scanning in FULL AUTO MODE. In FULL AUTO MODE the software makes all the decisions for you (as to what is being scanned, where it is on the flatbed, etc). This is the easiest way to scan.
  3. If you want full control over the scanning process click PAUSE and change FULL AUTO MODE to HOME MODE or PROFESSIONAL MODE. In the latter two modes you can change your scan settings as desired. Click SCAN after you have selected your settings. Click CLOSE once the EPSON SCAN is finished scanning.
  4. When scanning is complete, your images will be saved in the location specified on FILE SAVE SETTINGS, with the prefix and in the format you set.

How do I tell scanner to save pictures to a designated file? When I 'browse' and try to select a place, the 'OK' goes pale & I can't click on it. It seems to want to send it in an email.

hi,

Basically when you are saving pictures or images after scanning them out, all of you have to do is, click on File Menu bar on the upper left portion of your PC screen. >Select Save from the drop-down menu and try to locate the computer drive (e.g My Documents) where you want to save the item exactly.

Hope to get your issue resolved,

Please check the original software disk that accompanied the scanner. You should have the option to install a twain or twain32 driver at the least, which would allow you to scan from within a graphics program (photoshop, or even paint).

When you see the File Save Settings window, you need to select the location, name, and format of the scanned image file you want to save.
  1. In the File Save Settings window, specify the file folder in which you want to save your scanned image. Click the My Documents or My Pictures radio button (Windows XP or earlier versions), or the Documents or Pictures radio button (Windows Vista or Mac OS X).
  2. If you want to select another folder, click Other, then click Browse (Windows) or Choose (Mac OS X) and select the folder. If you want to save your image on the desktop, simply click Other.
  3. Specify a file name prefix with an alphanumeric character string. A 3-digit number is automatically added to the file name, but you can change the Start Number if you like. If you are scanning multiple images at once, each image will receive a different 3-digit number.
  4. Select a file format. Depending on the format, the Options button may be available for making detailed settings.
  5. The check boxes at the bottom of the window give you these options:
  • Overwrite any files with the same name: Select this option if you want to reuse the selected file name and location and overwrite previous files with the same names.
  • Show this dialog box before next scan: Select this option if you want the File Save Settings window to appear automatically before you scan in Home or Professional Mode. If you deselect it, you must click the File Save Settings button to open the window.
  • Open image folder after scanning: Select this option if you want Windows Explorer or the Macintosh Finder to automatically open to the folder where your scanned image is saved when Epson Scan finishes scanning.
6. Do one of the following, depending on the currently selected scan mode:
  • Home or Professional Mode: Click OK. Epson Scan starts scanning.
  • Full Auto Mode: Click OK, click OK again, then click Scan. Epson Scan starts scanning.
The scanned image is saved in the file and location you chose.
