My nikon coolpix s70 camera has a black screen but you can still see playback pics opiton button u just can't see take pics anymore it will flash when u take a pic but its still black please help

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Just put new batteries in. No film. I looked at the view finder and snapped a pic then the screen went black. I took the lens off and the mirror is sideways.

You have two main possibilities. The new batteries are incorrectly inserted or the batteries are faulty.

If not those, then it's a camera fault (it's definitely faulty if the mirror is actually sideways and not merely halfway up) and as you can get N75's for free these days (my last two have been boxed and nearly unused from FreeCycle) then it's simply uneconomical to repair it unless the mirror can simply be removed and correctly re-fastened. Spare parts availability is already very poor for the n75.

When i take it to develop film cames back the shutter not closing or opening ? on pic onit at all

I would check the shutter by:

1) open the film door
2) While looking into the camera, press the shutter button.

The shutter should open and then close. If the shutter doesn't open and then close, it could be stuck and my require professional help.

I was told my nikon D50 needs a shutter replacement. Is this problem common for D50's? Trying to decide if it should be fixe.

Nikon shutters are typically good for 100,000 trips...do you think you've taken that many pics?

Black strip across the top of the picture

I can tell you exactly what is happening. This is probably either happening when you are taking a photo with a flash? The maximum flash sync your camera has is 1/125 or 1/60 of a second. If you set your shutter speed faster than that, you shutter closes too slow and creates that black strip. Put the shutter speed to 1/60 or slower and see if that happens. If you have a long lens on the camera, you have to have the shutter speed either equal or less than the focal length to shutter. 50mm lens=1/50 a second without a flash. Otherwise you could have a bent or broken shutter curtain blade. Maybe someone stuck their finger in there.

He can fix it if you blades are broken.

Sounds like subject movement. Try using a faster shutter speed

Malfunctioning of Nikon 2100

I had the same problem. The shutter button is faulty and is always half pressed - auto focus is operational (this is the step before actually the picture is taken. Try to clean it up with some special electrical contact spray. if this does not work - need to replace it - Not a simple job for the novice. You might need to take the camera to a service center for a spare on-off-expose button. I had an old faulty camera where I took the button from it. That solved the problem.

N75 will not load film

Quick solution: force a manual rewind.
1. Remove film
2. Close camera back.
3. With the power turned on, press the two rewind buttons together. They are marked in red.
4. The camera will make a rewind sound and will stop after about 2 seconds.
5. DO NOT fire the shutter yet.
6. Put the mode on Manual and select a fast shutter speed like 1/90 sec. Any aperture will do.
7. Load the film correctly as given in the user's manual.
8. As you close the camera back, the film will prewind to the end of roll. At the end of the roll pre-wind the LCD will show you the total number of frames available.
9. Select any shooting mode.
10. Go on and take pictures.

Hope this helps
