there should be a bolt holding aggitator on spines,if not try grabbing aggitator and pulling up while rocking aggitator back and forth it will require a great amount of force to remove aggitator fron splined shaft, also so penatrating spray may help sprayed on splined shaft. It also may need to be cleaned around splined shaft to clean built up soap build up. also a haet gun or a hair dryer on high heat on top of aggitator shaft when trying to remove may help!
Pump locked up Tip the washer over and take the belt off. try to turn the pump both direction. look for seperation in pump seal. Very easy to replace. Tools needed 3/8th nut driver. water pump pliers. pump is 30 bucks
When the wash plate is loose (can be lifted up and down) it means that your washer needs a u-joint kit. Yes, Whirlpool actually came out with an entire kit for this.
Tightening the bolts (actually there are 6 of them) won't fix your problem. The kit number is 285927. There's an instruction sheet included with it.
After you get the kit and are ready to install it, remove the white plastic dome by inserting a flat screwdriver into the 4 small slots (look closely and you'll see them) and lifting up at the same time.
*Beware... this is a MAJOR job. Be prepared to spend a long time on it. You'll need to lift the top panel, remove the balance ring, remove the wash plate, remove the drive block nut (<---sometimes requires a torch), etc... It may not be something you wanna jump into. Call an appliance repair outfit and ask them what they'd charge to install one if you ordered the part.
