No suction on either vac or upholstery attachment...does spray

I have two Bissell carpet cleaners one is only about 120 days old and was only used twice before the other is a couple of years old. The new one is smaller than the older but they are otherwise similar. Recently neither one has any vacume/suction. I thought it might be the belt but the upholstery attachment has no suction either on either one when I checked it. It doesn't appear that dog hair is blocking any tubes or anything. What am I missing...I've lost my books.

Check the bristle holes. These can get really gunked up on Bissell units. Even just a little hair in them will keep them from working properly.

Will not **** the water off the carpet.

If the carpet cleaner won't "Extract" water from the carpet, try using the upholstery / hand tool. If you have suction there, your selector switch / knob is either in wrong position, or broken. There may also be a tear in the hose on the inside of the cleaner, or the waste tank is not sealing well.

Hoover SteamVac Model F5887-920 - hand attachment won't spray

I have a model I got in 2001. I found that the water sprayer on the hand tool is driven by a little turbine that relies on suction from the main vacuum motor. I eventually found that the spindle inside the turbine had separated and hence the hand-tool wouldn't spray. I glued it together but that only fixed the problem until it broke again. I am going to buy another (about $23).

The Bissell spray tube on my carpet cleaner won't spray, could it be blocked?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
It is very possible that your hose or tube could be clogged, the best way to check it is to start from the top where the suction starts and back track until there is no suction. You can use a wire coat hanger and create a hook on the end to be able to fish it down the hose or the tube and if you find an obstruction that is what the hook is for, to pull out the clog. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact your local vacuum claner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I can not seem to get the attachment for the upholstery cleaner to operate what am i doing wrong????

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
The attachment works on the suction from the Hoover Steam Vac and it’s either a straight suction tool or a revolving brush, check the front of the machine to see if the is a switch to turn on and odd, also before you attach the upholstery tool check the end of the hose for suction, it may be that your upholstery tool may be clogged or the brushes are not spinning and a part may be broken. Feel free to check with you local vac dealer or a new or a good used part if you find out what is wrong. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
