Question about Sony VAIO® VGN-N130G/B PC Notebook

1 Answer

Sony Vaio VGN 'B series' - broken headphone jack.

Headphone jack on used laptop is horribly mangled. When I opened it up to take a look, I noticed that on motherboard right next to 4 pin connector "JSPKR 2" (which passes audio to both internal spkrs) was an empty 3 pin connector marked "J4". Using ohm meter, I traced it back to headphone jack. (pin 1, is right side, pin 3 is left side, and pin 2 appears to be grnd. I am wondering now, if I plug a connector into J3, and route wires to outside of PC, attach female stereo mini plug, would I be able to access audio thru phones, as well as external speakers? Is anybody out there familiar enough with audio wiring on this model to give me an idea if I'm correct or not about this? Thanks alot

Thanks for the suggestion about USB audio card, THAT seems totally the way to go, I didn't even think of it. My pc is a laptop though with all devices on one mthrbd. I didn't even think to check if there was spare peripheral slot. (Also, you might be looking at wrong diagram, but my pc interrnal spkrs are connected to 4 pin connector, red/black to one spkr, white/black to the other, and 4 pin conect is named "JSPKR2")
    Thanks for the help though.

Hi there, your question has two way you can fix it:
1) see speaker jack circiut on your motherboard, picture here

Sony Vaio VGN 'B series' - broken headphone jack. - a0f7721.jpg
there are 5 pins to the jack socket, you may just find out 2 and 3 pin which is stereo audio output lines, and also need a ground 5 pin. then connect 3 wires go outside speaker. this way quite tough for you.
if you cannt do this way go next
2) find a USB audio card instead of onboard one. this is very easy.
reference here:

hope help you something fixed, please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks! keep in touch your question

you need check acreful that jack pins because all laptop pins design same, tell you why:

    1) stereo have two signal and two swtich to switch extenal and internal speaker well,

    2) another pin should be GND (common ground).

    thanks your feedback!

My headphone jack is not working at all. I just purchased it today, the sound card is saying no errors, the sound plays fine out of the speakers and the headphone do work Im using them on my cell now

Take it to the Service center. need to replace the headphone output connector's. these will happen from Moistor,Dirt block or Dry solder in the Laptop Motherboard. best of luck. ( Try, put headphone jack in and out for 20 to 30 times, or check the sound comes out via headphone, when pressing the connected jack.) best of luck

I think I have broken my headphone jack on my sony vaio VGN-CS320J because headphones plugged into this jack do not work, unless held at a certain angle, otherwise sound continues to come from the laptop...

It might be the plug on the headphone that's bad - try it on another laptop. If it's the jack that's bad, then it will need to be taken apart and that's not easy to fix - recommend having a repair shop fix it.

My laptop sony vgn n365e.but sound is not coming

If you've checked all the settings with your sound driver, and maybe tried to boot another OS (Like ubuntu), it looks like there is anissue with your logic board. However many times it's a broken headphone jack too, so I wouldn't exclude thatpossibility. I work for Sony Repair NYC and we do this repair frequently.

Sound problem

ok me too, since i install the win 7 in my sony vgn-fz15g, the sound is also coming from speaker too while headphone is connected, and earlier in vista it disable the speaker automatically, i check the sound window, in win7 speaker/headphone is given together, i can not disable one at a time, i think its a driver problem, sony customer care people told me that they have still not tested this model on windows 7 so thats why they are not releasing the driver, if any one have the link for he latest sigmatel high definition driver then let me know that, because this is the complete problem

I want to disable the onboard speakers on my sony vaio vgn-cr220e so the only sound comes from the headphone jack, but I can't figure out how to do it...

Click start and click control panel, then click on hardware and sound.  Click on sound, then click speakers and choose properties.  Then from the drop down on the bottom select disable.  Should disable the speakers and allow the headphones still.

How to connect YAMAHA DVR-S120 to computer

As long u`ve got audio out on ur Vaio (usually headphone mini jack on laptop`s) use stereo mini jack to RCA (both male plugs) extension cable. U may use video or vcr inputs on Yamaha. Be careful, when adjusting volume on ur Vaio - start from mid range & compare with other sources - DVD, TUNER etc. I`m not sure, but ur model got an optical SPDI/F audio output. In this case use toslink cable. Cheers
