I appreciate that...do you have any estimate as to what I shoud failry be charged for repairs? I've never dealt with TV repairs as I generally replace them...Economy negates that option at this time, however, I don't want to have my ignorance of the repair costs taken advantage of. Again, thank you a million for getting back with me.

This kind of faults are not easy to diagnose.

When a rear projection TV turns off after a while , that is because of overheating or because of a different internal fault, typically a fault capacitor either on power board or ballast board.

When it is overheating , that usually happens because the fan(s) in the lamp/ballast/optical group assembly are not working (sometimes there is more than one , up to three fans) . Ofen there is only one fan near to the lamp.

If the fan is fine, then the problem happens because of a a faulty capacitor. The TV restarts after a while just because capacitors discharge the electricity that they are holding after this time.

This kind of problem is usually due to a fault either on power supply board or on ballast board, that is the AC board powering the LAMP.
If instead of lamp model has CRTs, then the CRTs power boards must be tested.

Both parts must be tested before replacement.

A first this can be done visually inspecting the board , looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, cold solder joints, blown components and burnt areas.

If nothing is seen at a glance , the power board first , and then the flyback converter and mainboard must be tested.

Your TV capacitors will hold charge for a while, even when power cord is unplugged, and can release a dangerous high voltage discharge. Do not service the TV by yourself unless you have previous experience in repairing TVs.

VIORE DLP goes off 30 seconds after i switch it on

Listen closely at the rear of the set for any noise from a fan. Most projection sets have them to cool high temperature areas common in these and if the fan fails, the set will shut itself off before any heat damage results. If you hear nothing, use a portable fan directed at visible openings in the lower cabinet and see if this delays the shut-off of the set. If so, the fan is likely dead.

I just fixed my D52W20 by replacing three CAPS. Two of them were vented(bulging at the top). I replaced CP150 2200uf 16v with a 2200uf 50V, CP110 220uf 200v and CP114 220uf 35v. It was also recommended to replace CP120 but I did not have one. Check the green CAPS and replace any that are vented.

The lamp is most likely over heating. Check the fan in the lamp assembly compartment. Its located in the rear of the tv... try removing the lamp compartment and replacing the fan.

A quick fix is to put a small 7-10 inch box fan with its back flush to the lamp
compartment's vent - this will draw the heat out.
