Question about Televison & Video
This kind of faults are not easy to diagnose.
When a rear projection TV turns off after a while , that is because of overheating or because of a different internal fault, typically a fault capacitor either on power board or ballast board.
When it is overheating , that usually happens because the fan(s) in the lamp/ballast/optical group assembly are not working (sometimes there is more than one , up to three fans) . Ofen there is only one fan near to the lamp.
If the fan is fine, then the problem happens because of a a faulty capacitor. The TV restarts after a while just because capacitors discharge the electricity that they are holding after this time.
This kind of problem is usually due to a fault either on power supply board or on ballast board, that is the AC board powering the LAMP.
If instead of lamp model has CRTs, then the CRTs power boards must be tested.
Both parts must be tested before replacement.
A first this can be done visually inspecting the board , looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, cold solder joints, blown components and burnt areas.
If nothing is seen at a glance , the power board first , and then the flyback converter and mainboard must be tested.
Your TV capacitors will hold charge for a while, even when power cord is unplugged, and can release a dangerous high voltage discharge. Do not service the TV by yourself unless you have previous experience in repairing TVs.
