I had this game, try using it with a different gameboy, new batteries, blow in the bottom of the cartridge and in the bit where the cartridge goes into the gameboy.
Hope I can help, this games very well worth it.
You can also just download "Visual Boy Advace" which is a GBA emulator. Then you can download the Silver version rom.
If you didn't undersand anything I just said, an emulator is like an 'Doanloadable console' and a rom is like a 'downloadable game',
So you can download an online Gameboy and then download Silver vesion and play on your computer instead :P

Can your Pokemon game still hold a save?

If your Game Boy game is no longer able to hold a save, yet can still be played fine, that most likely means that the battery in the game cartridge has run out of energy.

You can easily replace this battery, restoring the cartridge's ability to store save data. This replacement can be performed for much less than the cost of buying a new game. You just need to purchase a new battery.

    **Basic soldering skills required**

    Soldering iron
    New 3 Volt Coin Cell Battery - CR2025 (165mAh) or CR2032 (220mAh)
    Adhesive tape
Fine tipped hemostat or needle-nosed pliers

    Flip over your cartridge.

    Locate Screw

Using a hemostat, needle-nosed pliers, or anything else that you can grip it with, unscrew this little screw by turning counter-clockwise.

Once the screw has been removed, turn cartridge over, slide the front cover downwards, and pull it off.

Now you can see the circuit board, and the battery that allows one of the chips to retain the game save data.

You can see that both Pokemon Red and Silver cartridges look very similar, except that the Silver circuit board has a crystal oscillator in the upper left-hand corner to control the passing of time in the game.

    Pokemon Silver wont save!

Not a clue what your friend is talking about, but if your game isn't saving, it's either because the battery that the game uses to keep saved data intact is dead OR that rattling sound inside is said battery.
You may be able to dismantle the cartridge and fix the problem.
These batteries can be replaced and in some cases are to be soldered in.
In other cases, they are simply held by a piece of metal.
I'm not liable for any damage you cause to your game should you decide to fix it yourself.

I save the file and i turn the game and it doesnt come back saved

The Silver/Gold/Crystal generation Pokemon games all had cartridges that contained a built-in battery that runs the internal clock, so that your game knows whether its day or night, Monday or Wednesday, etc. Anyway, I assume your battery has run out, and until replaced, the game will not save successfully.

This site give instructions on how to replace the battery:

Or you could just buy the game again, I would guess they are about $10 these days.
    Great game by the way.

    Hope that helps.

Sounds like your game's internal battery is dead, not too hard to fix. Just search Google for replacing Pokemon silver battery and you should find heaps of info about it. If you do I would recommend using a new battery and not one from another game (I used one from another game and it died in about 3 weeks).
Unfortunately you will have to start your game again :(.
    Hope this helps.
