Question about Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z850 Digital Camera

Low resolution when downloaded to Mac

Despite taking pictures at a high resolution setting (8mp/~2.6mb) when the files are downloaded to the Mac they end up substantially smaller (<500).

I can download files from SD card directly through USB memory card reader without the compromising file.

I have my S610 set to take photos @ 5MB. But when I download them to Picassa, they are ~1.2 MB. Is this a camera setting or Picassa?

Neither. The camera is taking pictures at 5 megapixels resolution. The file size of the image is only loosely related to the resolution. You'll note that your pictures are all different sizes. The size is dependent on the content of the picture. If you take a picture of a blank wall or a plain blue sky, the file size will be smaller than the file size of a picture of a cluttered scene, because it takes more bytes to record detail.

If you look at your pictures in your image viewer, you'll see that the pictures are all the same dimension (width and height), regardless of the file size.

Pictures quality is bad on a lot of pictures - lines and blocks are in the picture display but the thumbnail looks ok

Are you taking pictures at the lowest resolution? Most cameras have jpeg settings low medium and high or something like that are you on low. It may be that the pictures taken at this resolution are only good at thumbnail size.

My picture size have gone from an average 3.1mb to 1.6mb for the last few days. But the resolution is same-8mp-3264 * 2448....settinga are not changed.....set to their automode....picture...

If you are in Auto mode, try go to menu and change the "Image Quality" from normal to fine. The file size should then be bigger as the image compression ratio is less.

In uploading to a website, so that pictures could be printed, a comment states low resolution and the pictures may be blurry when printed. Is there any setting on the camera that I can change that would...

I dont know what resolution your camera is, but make sure you have it set at the highest it can go. The higher the resolution the better quality the picture. I had a 12mp camera but you could set it as low as 4mp which is ok for snaps but if you are uploading or printing then you need to set your camera to a higher resolution if you can. Read your instruction book it should tell you how to configure your settings there. If it is an old camera that cant be changed then maybe its time to invest in a higher mp camera perhaps 8mp 10mp or even 12mp

Blurry enlargements

I suggest altering the settings a little and if that doesn't work try using a different software to enlarge images. Such as windows photo gallery. That's not too good for enlarging just good for keeping the quality up if that isn't good enough try using a free trial of photo shop.
Hope I helped Dr Red

Enlarging file size of pictures

That camera shoots at 7.2Megapixels at max resolution, that should print an 8.5x11 without any issue.

Check the settings on the camera to make sure that you've got it set to take "high" resolution, and not "low".

In the settings, there should be a resolution option that you can change. It's likely set to take lower resolution that what the camera can actually handle.

DSC T20 poor image problem

If you took the images at 8MP or 5MP settings, then normally you have a high resolution picture, was the picture clear at the cameras LCD monitor? As you said its like low res in your PC, please check the image file size 8MP resolution will be approx. 3Mb size, if its about that figure, then the problem is in the camera, if the file size is about 500K maybe its in the camera settings, PC cant affect resolution, unless you only have VGA card and monitor, hope this will help, thanks

You are shooting with the exposure bias set too far on the plus side, not familiar with the 550, do You have the user manual? If You look at exif data of posted photos, You will see that many are taken at settings below the midpoint. If You don't have a manual, go to the Olympus website, many manuals are available for download. You may also find the function in the menu based on sunny, cloudy, etc, this is important to set right
