Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P31 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Why won't my Cyber-Shot DCS-P31 take pictures?

The camera works in all respects (menu, setup, zoom, all menu manipulations, deletes images from the flashcard, etc.) except it will not take a picture or video when the shutter release is pressed. I suspect corroded contacts. How wouldl I clean them?

Actually, try manually turning off the flash and taking a picture. If the shutter works and takes a picture, then suspect that your flash is burned out. Unfortunately it's not a simple task to change a burned out flash tube.

How do I delete a batch of pictures ? I can only find a means of deleting photos one by one , whereas on all my other cameras I have been able to delete all images on the SD card.

Every camera has a distinct delete process, sometimes in the setup menu. One work around would be to format the sd card in the setup menu.

Can i use sdhc class 4 or 6 cards in my fuji finepix 6900zoom

The FinePix 6900 Zoom uses SmartMedia (3.3v) for image storage, and a 16MB card is supplied with the camera. Upgrades are available up to 128MB. The entire SmartMedia card can be write-protected by placing a small sticker on the indicated area of the card. Write-protection stickers can only be used once, and they must be clean to be effective. Individual images can be protected through the Playback menu, which prevents them from being accidentally deleted (except through card formatting).

No display in control panel

Had this problem after a power hiccup. The firmware on my HP 5550 / 5550n has been a problem in the past, needing updating or currupting, but this time I was getting the power on, a backllit control panel but no menus or text, and steady on READY, DATA and ATTENTION lights. At any rate I saw a solution on the Internet and owe that poster a beer if I can ever find him.

All things led to a corrupt Firmware. Problem and most beleieve you have to send for a new Firmware FlashCard and that takes time and big $$$. I found that if you can find another working 5550 / 5550n you can pop it's firmware FlashCard, make an image of it, and restore your own firmware to a working state.

The 5550 /5550n printers firmware resides on a 32MB Compact FlashCard on the printers Formatter Board. (The formatter board is held into the printer by 8 screws, and also has the JetDirect card on it.). This Firmware FlashCard when removed, will fit in a standard Compact FlashCard reader, and can then be attached to any Windows Machine for manipulation.

NOTE that this Compact FlashCard containing the printers firmware involves a proprietary HP created partition that a Windows PC cannot even read. Thus when connected to a Windows PC you'll see nothing, and may well be challenged to format the card!!! --- Obviously... DON'T DO IT !!

There is a FREE program called SelfImage available. Just Google: download SelfImage. The pesent version of SelfImage as of this writing is v1.2.1. It can and will see the contents of the FlashCard, and thus can make an image file of the FlashCard for use down the road. Should the firmware on the CompactFlash Card ever get corrupted, you can restore it from any image file by simply using the SelfImage program in reverse.

I made two image files of a good firmware flashcard from a working 5550 / 5550n because when you choose to make the backup image in this SelfImage program, you can do either the entire physical drive, or just a selected partition of a physical drive. In the case of this printer's firmware FlashCard, the drive and partition appear to be one in the same, as will be evidenced by the exact same file size of the resulting images. I made copies both ways (drive and partition) just be sure all possibilities were covered.

I now make copies of that Firmware everytime it's upgraded.

Need to permanently delete thumbnails from camera card.

Sounds like you may want to permanently format the memory card while in the camera. This will remove all data that has been written to the card. Have your camera in shooting mode, go to menu and then down to Card tab or setup option and then go to Card Setup or Format option. Highlight Yes and press Ok. This will permanently delete all data from the memory card and you will not see the older images and will only see the newest ones from now on.

Need to delete photos from C-765 Camedia

At this point I would probably format the memory card in the camera. This will permanently erase all images that have been written to the card. To do this: Press ok - right arrow to Mode Menu - down arrow to Card tab - right arrow to Card Setup and then right arrow to Format - Choose Yes and then press Ok. All images are removed and going forward it should only download current images.

Need to delete memory

You need to remove the memory card from the camcorder and place it into a pc or photo shops computer. This will allow you to view the saved items on the memory card. You can then save these to disc and delete the contents on the card.

SLIDESHOW function

You can play the images in your camera on a TV or save them to videotape by connecting the camera with the bundled Audio/Video cable. Power up the camera in the PLAYBACK Mode, press the OK/MENU button to open the menu and using the arrow keys toggle up to begin the SLIDESHOW. You can even change the playback format in the MODE MENU. Press the OK/MENU button and using the right arrow key select the MODE MENU. Toggle down to SETUP, toggle right to enter the SETUP MENU and toggle up once to PLAYBACK SETUP. When you toggle right you will be offered four playback options: NORMAL, SLIDE, FADER and ZOOM. When selected you will get the following effects: NORMAL - Each image instantaneously replaces the previous image. SLIDE - The images are sequenced by sliding from right to left. FADER - The images are sequenced via a lap dissolve. ZOOM - The images are sequenced by zooming in to black and zooming out from black.
