Question about Sony DAV-C770 System
You can find a digital copy of the manual here (check out the "Operating Instructions" to be exact). The protect mode os actually a method of the system "protecting" itself from short circuiting, if for some reason any speaker wires are crossed, such as taped wires have been knocked loose and are now touching, this feature will be triggered.
If this is still coming up after all wires have been disconnected then it's likely the system has actually been shorted out and/or there's an actual hardware problem. You could probably have this repaired but at the cost of systems nowadays it'd probably be cheaper to buy another system. Note though, you're speakers may still be good so you might could try buying something off ebay and reusing the Sony speakers, which imo, are a great contribution to what makes the system great.
