2000 400 Explorer engine won't shut off

I recently replaced my engine, starts and runs fine and everything worked fine prior to replacement. Just won't shut off with key or run sw. Checked grounds, thought maybe CDI box not working correctly? Help please .

Engine won t shut off

Poor ignition switch .Replace it and check for the blown fuses & your problem will disappear .As ignition controls the current to ECU so if the ignition will still be transmitting the voltage to ecu with the key turned off so how will a engine shutoff? think it's logical. You have been tricked by mechanic as it's not the computer fault at all.

It sounds like a fault in the starter circuit. It could be a defective neutral safety switch, starter solenoid, or possible a defective ignition switch but I doubt it. Can you hear the starter solenoid??? I'm willing to bet the problem is either with starter relay, neutral safety switch, or starter solenoid.

Difficult to start up sounds sluggish, once shut off, won't start, coil was hot (coil recently replaced). Needs new muffler.

Replace spark plugs with new ones. put new muffler in. The muffler has an affect on the way engine runs. (back pressure) is needed. At this age you may need a head gasket(s). Compression check on all cylinders. The list goes on... Good luck

The Inertia Fuel Shutoff is located in the trunk, on the LH hinge support.
All you need to do is press the reset button located on top of the switch.

Fuel pump relay & fuel pump

when you turn the key on the pump should run to purge the system . so now you have fuel pressure for starting. this stage lasts about 10 seconds then the fuel pump doesnt turn on again till the computer see's oil pressure then turns the pump on. if the inertia switch has been activated it wont send the first amount of fuel.
