Question about Kirby Ultimate G Bagged Upright Vacuum

Roller brush will not move when vaccum is turned on

I have a G5 and it powers on but the roller is not moving and so no suction. When I turn the front part so the green arrow is aligned with "Belt On" and then look at the bottom where the roller is, it doesn't look like the belt is engaged. It just spins around the roller. How do I get the belt to engage so the roller brush will spin.

I can see the belt and it's not broken. I'm just not sure how to get the belt to engage so that the roller brush will spin when the vaccum is turned on.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Brush doesn't spin and there is no suction there either, the brushes move freely when manipulated manually

Check for clog in the hose or what ever connects the nozzel to the collection device. I pick up vaccum cleaners all summer, most new, all clogged, all from the trash.

If possible, take the machine outside, open the collection device, run the motor. Is there suction you can detect anywhere?

Eureka 4870: Brush roller turns even in hose setting.

You either have the wrong size belt, most likely too small, or you have installed a new belt incorrectly. When you open the cover on the bottom of your vac, you will see the pulley that moves as you flip the switch from floors to carpet. The belt does not go around this pulley. When activated(carpet) the pulley puts tension on the belt causing it to turn the roller. When switched back to hard floors, the belt looses tension allowing motor to cause suction but disabling roller. Also, the dial on top of vac is only to direct suction, not for disabling roller

Here is a online guide....it's for the G series Kirbys. They're similar enough that it should help. Pay special attention to the belt lifting process...it's exactly the same as for the Heritage II, and it's also where I think your problem lies. I have a Heritage II manual available too! Hope I have helped...
