i replaced all the 6.8 metal film resistors then all the 100 ohm resistiors . the pisture was askew on left side and could not adjust convergence left to right but could up and down . put new stk's and 6.8's in system booted up and picture was funny looking then it acted like it was adjusting then picture stopped and it started chirping then i pulled all the resistors and checked them 100 was about 5 ohms off . same with 6.8's any where frome 3 to 10 ohms so i put them all back in then put 1 of the original stk's back in n have picture but the same as it was in the begining

Sure, Stk392-180, I use them all the time instead of the 110 and 120. Was your convergence out and that prompted you to replace the Stk's? If you had a picture before ( but bad ) I would check for the 6.8ohm bias resistors. They must be on the money, if not, they will destroy your Stk's in a heart beat. They are all located right buy the Ic's all in a row. Don't forget to clean the heat sinks off then apply a bead of Heat Sink Compound across the middle of the Ic's before installing them. the resistors may not be the value I stated, so measure a few, that will tell you,

The resistors MUST BE 6.8 ohm ,,,not 3 not 10 but 6.8, I do them all day long. The IC's will stand for nothing in-between without going up. some are in parallel which they will measure 3.4 in the circuit as you know. It's best to remove 1 leg then check them.

Your going to have to replace the STK's again because they went up and that's what took out the resistors. When your converging the sides, don't try to bring each on target the first time. Bring it in or out 1/2 the distance then go to the next one all the way around and repeat the process over again. If you want, give me your e-mail address and we can go from there.

I have a very similar problem.on a Hitachi 50UX52B. I just pull the chassis to replace both Convergence Amps (STK 392-110) But am now on hold after reading your solutions.
I discussed this on Riddledtv.com under http://www.riddledtv.com/forums/red-convergence-hitachi-50ux52b-soldering-heat-sink-t1384,highlight,hitachi.html
and included a picture of the problem. I also have the service manual that I will be happy to share. I would really appreciate your input and comments.

It is very possible that the IC's were not installed correctly. Check and make sure you do not have any solder bridges on your pins, or that the solder pads did not pull up from the board. If all that looks good, check your resisters that are in circuit. It is possible that 1 or more was already week and popped when the new STK's were installed. Also as far fetched as it could be, you might have gotten defective parts though not likely. I hope this helped and good luck to you.

Alot of techs recommend using the higher wattage ICs to replace the stock ones, which is never a good idea since the resistors get stressed. Upgrading to the STK394-160 IC is the only upgrade Hitachi recommends but then the values of the resistors need to be changed since the stock resistors will not work with the upgraded ICs

Chirping tv turns on-off every 2-3 seconds until unpluged

I hope you replaced the bias resistors at the same time. If not, then the ic's have gone out again. Double check your soldering that no pins are bridged.

Hello:
You need to have the convergence IC's replaced, the part # is STK-392-110 replace them both as if one is bad the other is soon to follow. Replace them with STK-392-120 for longer life. They are large black IC's mounted on a metal heatsink.

This TV probably needs the convergence amp IC's replaced. When they go bad the TV will not turn on.Call a good TV Tech and tell him you want the IC's upgraded to STK 392-150 instead of the original STK 392-120 and check all resistors in the circuit for proper value. They could be burned or open.
