Lights come on, not cooling, temp indicator shows (-)
My 4 yr old refrigerator stopped cooling today. All the lights come on when the doors are opened. Between the up and down temp controls no numbers show, only a green (-) sign for both the refer and freezer.
What's up with that?

Re: lights come on, not cooling, temp indicator shows (-)
Because your digital controls appear to be confused I think the electronic module behind the temp control is defective. The part number for your control board is 12868513
You can enter the model number JFC2087HRP in model and parts search feature at the link below. You may want to unplug refrigerator and examine the part for burn marks or other signs of damage. Let me know what you find, Thanks Sea Breeze

The problem is above the doors at the switch, the unit can't see the switch opening (closing the door opens the switch). The linkage is where the problem is, the light go out to protect the fridge from getting too warm and the lights are remaining on after you close the door.
Make sure the temp settings are on the recommended settings. If they are than the freezer control arm is probably stuck in the shut position or the vent is plugged with ice.
you can re secure Arm or defrost the port.
We have a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator which we purchased in 2002, Model PSS25NGNACC. Today we had a repairman come to investigate why the Express Thaw 3lb. light was on and could not be shut off. If shut off, it came on again when the door was closed and reopened. The repairman called GE and learned that this light was an air filter change indicator which turns on at some interval (2 years, they said, although we don't remember ever seeing this before). The air filter involved is for the interior of the fridge and is not critical. GE said that newer master control boards have this function disabled, since people rarely changed the filter and GE no longer makes them. I have read our user manual cover to cover and find nothing on this filter. I guess we just have to pay the $70 dollars to have someone come and call GE to figure it out. But, enough of that. To reset the indicator, simultaneously press the following keys on the touchpad and hold for 5 seconds until it beeps:
There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold.
The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.
