Hi there.
Restart the laptop and hit F2 as it starts, that will take you into the bios, in the bios look for the boot order and set the CD/DVD as first boot device, hit F10 and exit the bios, the computer will restart and allow you to boot from CD.
Please post back with the results and thanks for using FixYa!!

Hi,

you need to have a bootable Cd with you for booting. Also check you have selected proper bootable option in BIOS setup if you have not set boot device as "Cd rom", you cannot boot through cd.

Here is a link which describe the installation of windows. clickhere

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My sony laptop needs to bypass the log on password

This can usually be achieved but firstly you would have to prove the laptop belongs to you and isn't stolen - A Sony laptop will usually have a Microsoft Windows operating system and passwords can usually be changed using a 'boot' cd or password recovery disc (I'm presuming you haven't created a password recovery disc or you wouldn't have posted your question on fixya) - Download a boot cd and burn it to disc using another computer - set the start-up options on the locked laptop to 'boot from cd first' (You'd need to press one of the keys as soon as your laptop begins booting up to get into the BIOS or SETUP so you can choose this option - it might be shown on screen or you can Google it to find out which key to press) - Once you've booted from the cd instead of from the operating system on the laptop's hard drive you should follow the instructions on screen - then take out the cd, change the boot settings back to 'internal hard drive first', and re boot into Windows

Want to change compability to AHCI mode in lenovo z570 ideapad

This is a setting in you BIOS. Try changing to AUTO under the SATA drive settings by pressing F key during boot. It will be noted on screen during startup.

I would stay away from a OS upgrade till your are certain all hardware and software is compatible. It is a lot of work if it does not work properly.

Windows log in

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. How do I get my inspiron 5100 back to its original factory settings? I don't care if I loose my documents they are saved on a jump drive

Hi, if you have your Del CD, you can just put this in and select repair or reinstall. If this is not posible, follow the following:
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing ESC button, or delete in some machines. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system.
Hope this helps

How do i fix an unexpectedI/o error

Could be when windows uses transfer mode, you can change this mode
Steps To Change IDE Properties
Click the Start button
Right click My Computer
Select Manage from the resulting menu
In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager
In the right pane, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Identify your CD/DVD drive in the expanded menu and right click the appropriate drive
Select Properties
In the Properties windows, click the Advanced Settings tab
In the Transfer Mode box that represents your CD/DVD drive (typically Device 1); open the dropdown menu and select PIO Only
Click ok and exit all windows
If this does not resolve your issue, then you will need to go back using the above procedure and change the Device 1 in step #9 back to "DMA if available". Then, change Device 0 to "PIO Only" in the Transfer Mode box.
For reference, the Device 0 is the Primary IDE Channel and the Device 1 is the secondary IDE Channel.
After you change your settings, make sure you restart your system so that the computer recognizes the changes you have made. After you reboot, check the settings to make sure they are in effect. If they are, your device should now work properly.

any further help let me know
