Question about Cybernet Systems CyberPower 1100AVR (obcps1100avr1) UPS System
This morning, while doing nothing special on the PC, suddenly it powered down and I could hear the UPS intermittently beeping and clicking. Anything not plugged into the UPS remained powered up, meaning there was no power outage. Also connected to the UPS is a couple of external eSATA drives which I could hear repeatedly powering up, then losing power... so I immediately switched them off. The UPS was switching back and forth from Power(green light (AC)) to Battery (orange light (DC)). Just like it does when I'm having a power outage problem, except it was repeating the cycle. Normally, I'd expect whatever is connected to the UPS to stay powered up either way, but that wasn't the case today. I've owned the unit about 3 years. So, is it dead? If the problem is the batteries, are they serviceable? BTW, I have everything disconnected from the unit while it remains plugged in and charging. I'll check it later today to see if the batteries are holding any charge. It doesn't click back-and-forth when there is nothing plugged in and pulling power. Thanks.
Most UPS's will check the voltage of the battery periodically when the UPS is running and all is well with the AC power. If the test returns a "fail" on the voltage of the battery, many UPS's will start acting strange. It sounds like this may be the case with yours. The batteries can be changed by removing the access door on the bottom of the unit. A phillip screw holds it in. Here's a link to the battery set: http://www.batteryinternational.com/cyber-power-cps1100avr-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f1.html

Its the batteries. Have the same model, and both times the batteries got weak it did the same thing. Just came home to find it doing it again today, not going to put a 3rd set of batts in it. Seems like a strange way for them to fail (I'd prefer it just cut the power totally, the cycling can't be good for the connecting equipment) but I can tell you its the batts, replace them and it'll work like new for a few yrs again.
