Question about Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camedia c-4000 Hubby dropped my camera while taking pics of the grandbaby, and the lens came off. I don't know if there is a way to put it back on, or if it is a repair that will cost as much as a new camera. Thanks!

Re: Camedia c-4000

New camera. The lens can be put back on, but you need to get in there with some very small tools and know what you are doing. I took a bad one apart and have an idea on how to get it back on if that is the only problem. Drop me a line,

My Olympus FE-140 lens won't extend.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $74 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Putting Lens Back on

How far apart are you? I mean it all goes back together in reverse order. If the lens is disassembled, you need to get the outer lens tube back on its tracks in the inner tube. That takes a little working, but it should be doable. You should be able to turn the small gear that is on the lens assembly and be able to extend the zoom lens, itll be tough, but if you cant, then the camera will probably not be able to do it either, look for something off track.

Olymus, She said thet is was dropped, Gets power, seems like lense jammed

Hello Sammy, The lens assembly is a very delicate part of any camera. It contains small servo-motors and inductance coils along with the actual lens. Even service centers are having trouble managing to fix this and these problems lead in most of the cases in the replacing of the camera's lens assembly. I recomand you to go to a service center, present them the problem and then ask them for a cost estimate before they do something with it. I'm sorry this is not what you wanted to hear. Try using brand new fully charged rechargeable batteries like NiMH or NiCd. Also try viewing though the computer via USB.

Lens cap test...

Switch on camera into Shutter mode. Put lenscap over lens or block it so you get a black LCD. Have a look at that first. Only a general indication but if there ARE any bad pixels on the LCD they will be visible as coloured dots. Not too important as THAT doesn't affect the pic but personally I would not put up with it - took one back for exchange for that reason .. who wants to look at spots. The CCD is the real one to look for. With lens still blanked off to a black screen set the shutter at 2 secs, take a pic then set at 4 secs, take another pic. You won't see much on the LCD so you should download those tests to your editior - Paintshop Pro, Photoshop or whatever. THEN you get a much bigger pic (black) to look at. You'll probably find at least one or two little spots, almost inevitable with many, but you should NOT get many and also very noticeably bad spots. If so , complain and exchange.
