Question about Belkin (F5D7231-4) Wireless Router

1 Answer

F5D7231-4 stopped connecting to Internet via downstream router

My apartment receives its internet connection via ethernet from an external router. I had been using the Belkin F5D7231-4 as a wireless router (not configured as an access point) but recently it dropped the internet connection. Upon changing the settings off of dynamic IP and onto static I can get the connection status of the Belkin to a green "connected" but when I wirelessly connect to the Belkin it still shows as local access only and no internet. I've also tried configuring it as an access point but not sure what the downstream router is and cant get this to work either.

Ok you cannot make it static cause I'm sure the router giving you internet is dynamic. Which means every so often the router will send you a new address. To me it sounds like you been disconnected from the router feeding you the internet. You can try to ping it but that is more technical

Why did you change it from dynamic to static? My suggestion would be to put it back to dynamic and let it grab a good ip address from the gateway. The other option is to contact whoever managed the network at your apartment and see what they will charge you for a static IP address.

When computer connects to router, internet stops working

The router is not configured correctly. When using the ethernet cord the signal is hardwired to the computer by passing through the router. You must go to the address of the router..It is in the manual or you will find it by googling the make and model. Open the window and check the settings. If you did not set up the router with the wired connection first the radio signal is not working .

My d link router will not connect to the internet from my phone jack. I where I receive my phone and internet connections. What steps do I take to install to receive the highh speed connections?

The phone jack must be connected to a modem, which is then connected to the router via an ethernet cable. To connect:
1. Connect the phone cord from the jack in the wall to the jack in your modem of choice. Turn on the modem. 2. Connect a CAT-5 ethernet cable from the correct jack in the modem to the correct jack in the router. 3. If using a wired connection, connect an ethernet cable from the router to your computer. Otherwise, simply activate the wireless card of your computer and select from the available wireless networks.

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

was this helpful ?

You don't want to set a static IP address in your wireless router. You'll be connected to the network alright, but the IP address won't be recognized by the primary router. Thus, you'll see you're connected with only local access.

First and foremost, ensure that your Internet connection is valid. Plug the ethernet cable from the wall directly into your computer and test the connection. If you can't get it to work, then the problem is not on your end. Contact the agency in charge of the external router (e.g. apartment maintenance).

If your connection is fine hard wired, you may have bad data or a faulty configuration in your wireless router. I suggest doing a complete hard reset (there should be some instructions with your router on how to do it--some have a small flush mounted button that you have to press for a few seconds). Set up your wireless router as if for the first time. This should take care of your problems.

Wireless won't connect to the internet when in WPA TPIP mode

I have found that some routers do not like text and numbers mixed in the password. After having a ton of problems I set up the wireless password to all numbers and haven't had a problem since.

Prior to that the wireless would work for a day or so and then quit. It was frustrating.

Also, when the router calls for text or hexadecimal I have found that they really don't mean text unless it is between A to F, which isn't really text but a hexadecimal number.

So, take the simple approach. Put in all 5's for your password. You can change it later if everything works, but use all 5's just to see if you can get going.

Don't read this part if you already know this.... You have to connect a computer via a hardwire ethernet cable to the router to set the password encryption. I used 192.168.200.1 as the IP address to get to the modem. Put the IP address in your browser address bar and you should come up with a screen that is addressing the modem. Select wireless security or some similar sounding menu item and then make your selections.

After you do this, and before you disconnect the ethernet cable, try to get on to the internet using the hard wired ethernet cable. That will be bypassing the wireless routines. If you can't get on via the ethernet cable direct connection, it is unlikely that you will be able to make the wireless work because there is a problem downstream from your computer -- the modem or perhaps the connection at the street.

Once done you can remove the ethernet cable from your computer. Go to NETWORK CONNECTIONS and properties and set the identical parameters WPA, etc in the properties including the all 5's password.

If you have set the wireless to connect automatically it should connect to the internet.

good luck

Let me verify your network configuration with you. You have your modem connected to the WAN/Internet port of your router via an ethernet cable and then your PC connected to your router via another ethernet cable, correct?

If this is your setup, then try this:
  1. Unplug the power cord from the modem & router
  2. Plug the power cord into the modem and wait for it to boot up (most modems have an "Internet/Connection" light to indicate they are connected to the ISP)
  3. Plug in the power to the router, wait for it to complete the bootup process (usually when the lights stop flashing it's done), and see what happens.
