This just happened to me.......in my case - ice formed in a section in the back of the freezer clogging up the place where condensation(?) is supposed to drain off...it has something to do with the frost free feature.....when that became full - water then dripped inside the fridge. I called the manufacturer..they sent someone out who fixed the problem and then put something in the back of the freezer so this would never happen again. Sorry, this isn't a technical response but it sounds exactly like my situation. hope that helps a little.....cost about $200 to fix it...still better than having to buy a new one

The drain tube is attached to a tray at the base of the evaporation coils on the rear wall of the freezer section. You gotta remove the access panel to find and clear the drain. I recently worked on a frigidaire model and made a crude video:

Water leaking from whirlpool gold refrigerator

When refrigerators leak water it usally is a sign that the defrost drain found inside the rear of freezer and behind the rear panel of freezer has become clogged with ice or gunk. Sometimes the pan below refrigerator has a crack and allows water to leak onto floor. Please click here=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be HappeningYou will at times see water build up inside freezer bottom especially on bottom freezer refrigerators. This will take a little reading over to understand what may be happening. Click Here=> Leaking Refrigerators

Water is leaking from top part of freezer down to bottom of inside of the frig. Frost is on the top of the frig in the frigerator.

FIRST STEP: UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR. AFTER IT'S UNPLUGGED, DO THE FOLLOWING:

Remove the food from the freezer compartment and place inside the refrigerator temporarily.

Remove the bottom panel and back panel from inside the freezer compartment. You will probably notice that the bottom of the inside of the freezer is covered in ice. Use hot water (not boiling) from the tap and pour it on to the ice that is formed on the inside of the freezer compartment to melt the ice.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE A HEAT GUN TO MELT THE ICE AS IT WILL MELT THE INSIDE OF THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT. ALSO DO NOT CHOP AT THE ICE WITH A SHARP INSTRUMENT OF ANY KIND AS THIS WILL PUNCTURE AND DESTROY THE INSIDE OF THE FREEZER.

If you have a wet vac, you can remove the melted water using the wet vac. Or you can use a towel to mop up the excess water. You will still have to pour hot water onto the ice until all of the ice in the freezer is melted. Patience is key as it takes time to defrost all of this ice.

You will see a drain hole in the back of the freezer compartment that is still clogged with ice. You will need to continue to apply hot water until the ice has completely melted.

Note: When the ice in the drain breaks free, you will see all of the water disappear as it empties out.
In Whirlpool refrigerators, the water runs to a tray underneath the refrigerator. You will hear the water empty out into that tray. Then you will know that you have completely cleared the ice from the drain pipe in the freezer. To double-check this, take a small cup of warm water and dump it into the drain hole and you will see it visibly disappear and run into that tray underneath the refrigerator.

Replace the freezer panels back into the freezer compartment and plug it back in and return your freezer items back in to the freezer and you should be all set.

Freezer and refregirator are both down

sounds like the defrost timer is malfunctining and leaving on the heaters that melt the ice. or it may have just came out of defrost. take and feel the lines where they go into the compressor in the back. watch out for the fan blade when doing this. one should be cold and one hot. if not then the compressor may not have enought refrigerant in it. anothe thjing to check is the coils are they clean. the oines that are underneath are what i'm talking about. if they are not oyou will have toi clean them. good luc and let me know if you need more advice.
