Question about Gateway FPD1975W 19" LCD Monitor

Gateway monitor FPD1975W won't display

I have Gateway computer and monitor which I bought about two years ago. Since last a couple of days monitors stopped displaying, I thought its problem with computer but when I hookup computer with another monitor it seems to be working fine.

Here is what I noticed with monitor,

When I root computer I do get login screen and after I login it does display my desktop for few seconds before turning back to black screen but blue power button for monitor still stays on {blue}, it’s not turning to orange which makes me feel that it’s not going to power saving mode. If I don’t login quickly screen turn black but I can login without even seeing login on screen.

If I turn off power button for monitor and turn it back again, every thing comes up on the screen for few seconds and then it goes black again. I would appreciate if one you could help me with this.

I am hoping its something to do with setting for monitor because I really don't want to buy a new monitor at the moment.

Thank you very much in advance!

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

Gateway FPD1975W Monitor Vertical lines in the right side of the screen

Open the unit back up and check the cable that goes from the control board to the LCD panel and make sure it is plugged in securely. If this cable is not connected all the way it can cause lines on the display. Also while you are inside the unit check the capacitors on the power supply board. The tops should be flat, if you have any with bulging tops then you need to replace all of the ones on the power supply board. This can also cause display issues if the power supply is not putting out the correct voltages because of bad capacitors.

Hello,

Your monitor problem is causes by the power supply. What is happening is the power supply voltages are not stable, just enough to power the unit up. When you connect it to a video signal the power demands slightly increase and the power supply can't handle it. This is a very common problem with LCD after a few years of use. The issue with the power supply is the capacitors have started to fail. These parts are used to filter the output voltage and when they start to fail the outputs start rippling hence the problem you are having. Here is a link to a repair article that shows how to repair the Gateway FPD1975W monitor.

You need to install EZTUNE from Gateway, but you need to go here first:
Portrait Displays' Theft Deterrence minimizes theft or unauthorized relocation of your display. Theft Deterrence does not prevent the display from being stolen, but hinders the operation of the display once it is removed from the 'Theft Deterrence enabled' host computer.

The Gateway FPD models develop problems after a couple or more years of use. The repairs are fairly easy for the savvy technician. The power inverter board in the back of the monitor contains some capacitors, they may be 470 and 220 mfd or 680 mfd depending on when they were made, @ 25 volts, with a 105 deg. C temp rating. They go bad due to heat issues and the currents they have to filter. Replacement of the capacitors usually restores operation.

If you bought it new in this last August, don't put up with it but get it fixed under the warranty. That is what warranties are for.

Gateway FPD1975W black 19 inch LCD

most likely is the power supply in the monitor.
gateway LCD has a building power supply in the monitor. it supplies 38W to the lamp.
since there is no display, it tells me that there is no power to the monitor.
if try another monitor and it works fine. then the problem is the monitor. (dispaly lamp is good for 17 Years- according to the tech spec.) but the power supply is pushing too much power.
other vendors max power is apporximately 30W.

make sure there is nothing behind the monitor and has good air flow. Since there is no fan in the unit. it need to vent the hot air natually.

The FPD1975w

Replacing the lcd screen more than likely. Problem in the PCB thats built onto the lcd itself.
They are rather inexpensive these days to replace. I would just buy a new one. Check warranties offered before buying, some manufacturers offer 3 years. ;)
