I had the same problem of code 10. I am using an HP pavilion dv6000 with a ricoh webcam. I found that I download a microsoft updates on the 8th of febuary which included some sonix drivers which were optional and no good to me but stoped my webcam working.
By going into 'control panal' and selecting 'system' then 'devise manager' you get a list of your system. If you then select the 'universal serial bus controlers' at the bottom you will see the sonix driver. By rolling back this installed driver I found my webcam started working again.
This solved my problem and I cant believe there aren't a lot of people out there with the same problem. Good old microsoft!
------------------------------ Ironically, I received the same error and, I discovered it had nothing to do with using the webcam - go to this site for a REAL answer :

I ended up hitting my "quick play" button located next to the on/off button (left side) and double-clicked on the HP Webcam - the blue light came on and I could see myself smiling...

please do rate the solution, thank you for using fixya.keep updated,.thanks.

Good Luck! It works...

Webcam not working in dell inspiration n5010. lexmark x 422 error code 10 is displaying in devicemanager.

HI
A Code 10 error is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, a situation usually caused by outdated or corrupted driver A device may also receive a Code 10error if a driver generates an error that Device Manager doesn't understand. In other words, a Code 10 error can sometimes be a very generic message indicating some kind of unspecified driver or hardware problem. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers for the device is a likely solution to a Code 10 error. If reinstalling driver is not working than try to rollback the driver or restore the system on previous date..

Webcam is not working

Check if the webcam driver is installed. Open Device Manager, if you have Windows XP right click on "My Computer" then click properties on the System Properties window go to hardware then click on the Device Manager button. If you have Vista or Seven, you can type "Device Manager" in the search box in Start Menu. Check if the webcam driver is installed, your webcam should be listed under "Imaging Devices". If you don't see your Webcam here that could mean the the driver is not installed. You can download drivers at www.hp.com/support enter your computer's product number.

Reinstall the webcam driver again. Due to some reason the driver files may have been damaged. If you don't have the driver, then goto HP site and download from there. Thanks

I see the word hp webcam at the top of my laptop...hp pavillion dv 6000 but wen i go to quickplay i don't see the device...wen i look at the device list it is not listed

On the My Computer properties window, click on the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
Click on the plus ( +) sign next to Imaging Devices and locate the webcam item in the device list.
If the webcam is not listed, do the following activities to install the driver using the webcam driver recovery.
Click Start, click All Programs, click PC Help & Tools, and then click HP Application Recovery.
Select Driver installation and click Next.
Select the HP Webcam 1000 driver from the list, and click Install.
If the webcam is listed under Imaging Devices but there is a red X on the icon, the webcam is disabled. See figure below.

I have HP Pavilion dv6000 webcam does not work.

Check to make sure the device is installed. Go to your device manager by doing the following:

start | run
devmgmt.msc

Under Imaging Devices, check to make sure you have the entry:

HP pavilion webcam

This is the first test to make sure the device is actually present in your DV6000

How do i turn off the web cam for the dv6000

You can disable it under Device Manager. Here's how to get there:

-Open the Start Menu
-Look for Computer or My Computer, and right-click on it. A menu will come up.
-In the menu, choose Manage
-Computer Management comes up. On the left pane, look for Device Manager. Click on it.
-The right pane will now show the devices on your system. Look for a section called Imaging Devices. Click the plus next to it to expand it.
-Find the webcam (Probably called HP Pavilion Webcam) and right-click on it.
-In the menu that comes up, choose disable.
-You should see an "X" appear over the device. This indicates that its disabled.

If you ever want to use it, go back to the same spot, and choose enable.

HP webcam dv6000 is not working properly

Weird but worked for me for yahoo and messenger but not quickplay. If you have the Chicony web camera, follow these steps to download Acer webcam drivers.

1. Download Acer 5210 Chicony Webcam drivers.

2. Run the setup file.

3. Follow installer prompts then RESTART PC.

4. Ignore the 'installing drivers' popup.

5. Open up the Control Panel.

6. Open up the Device Manager.

7. Select webcam from 'Imaging Devices'.

8. Right click on webcam and select 'Update'.

9. Select 'Browse computer for driver'.

10. Choose 'Let me pick from list of devices on PC'.

11. Uncheck 'Show compatible hardware' checkbox.

12. Scroll down to Chicony manufacturer.

13. Choose the 'Acer Crystal Eye Webcam'.

14. Install even if a question pops up.

YOU ARE DONE AND ENJOY YOUR CHATTING WITH ACER CYRSTAL EYE WEBCAM.

Thanks to DylanBennett for uncovering this odd fix for the HP webcam
